Weird little shots?

I'm writing a couple of articles on weird little shots -- the sort you might not see at first but that can get you out of a tough situation. You make something from nothing. Like this:

CropperCapture[52].png

You can't see enough of the blue ball to make it directly, and the combo clearly has no chance. You hit the yellow just before the blue, it comes off the cushion and bumps the blue out and the cue ball hits the blue and sends it towards and maybe in the pocket.

Do you have any favorite weird little shots? I need a little more material.

Everyone knows how to compress the object ball through the side pocket nipple by hitting it really hard but one time I was titty hooked with the cue ball behind the side pocket nipple and I rocket launched the cue ball through the nipple and made the wired combo.

I wish the WEI table still worked like the old days. I've gbot two. If I can't add them tomorrow, I'll send them to you.

I believe George Rood showed me how to make this one about ten years ago.

This shot is the very shot that George Rood showed me when I interviewed him about 10 years ago. He said he learned that shot from Hayden Lingo!! He remembered it because it was so unusual for a more experienced player to show another player a shot back in those days.

Here's a decent One Pocket "Save my ass" shot
Bob Barkhurst showed me this and can get it within a ball of the pocket (indicated by a blue oval in the pic) about 8 out of 10 times. Just shoot the CB into the 2 ball for a double-kiss and send the 2 cross table to the far corner. Takes some getting used to, but it works like a charm anywhere on the table for various effects.

Interesting. It looks like you direct the object ball by the exact position of the cue ball when the OB comes off the rail. I recall a similar kiss shot bank that was on here a few years ago but now I don't remember how it worked. It appeared to be an impossibly thin cut for a bank, but you hit it fuller and kissed and changed the angle. Anyone remember the set up?

I assume that's by hitting it fuller than for the 2 ball shot and the 1 kisses off the cue ball as it comes off the cushion. Is that right?

Yes,shot is diagramed, shown somewhere, I think I remember where. I will get back to you.

There are 3 cross over banks from 1pkt that are unusual. All involve the object ball on or near the cushion and a ball width up the long rail. Cross over with lots of inside. Kick off the bottom rail and crossover. From the same long rail.kick off opposite longrail bottom shortrail and cross over the face. Preacher Ron shot on youtube.

I have seen the shot and in my recollection, both balls ar closer to side pocket.

There is the dbl kiss bank from before the side to the far cross corner. Anothet 1pkt shot cueball floats back across. I guess 1pkt banks are great for lastpocket 8 ball as well.
Think I recall a guy trying to show the 10 times fuller on video. He said something like. This works if I cant do it I will quit playing.

It is a weird shot to shoot successfully,
It's like you are hitting the object ball fuller than you need to.
But it works, and I tend not to question Mr. Barkhurst.

As a matter of fact, I asked him to show me it after reading your interview with him, Steve.

This one may already be well known, but take the blue ball in your diagram and put it on the other side of the yellow, still frozen to it, and maybe a half-inch further out from the cushion. Put the cueball a few inches further away, moving parallel to the side cushion. From there you can make the yellow ball.

No idea about the dates of either, but last week I just watched anot old Grady one pocket vid and this was one of the shots. Sorry no link and don't remember the name but it was a good 1 hole video, the link was out up by someone here.

That's a good one. It seems like it could work even with the yellow ball not frozen to the cushion.

Yes, it can still be made even if the yellow is off the cushion a little bit.

The first time someone showed me this shot it came up for me in a game just a couple of days later and I made the 9 ball.
