Hello. I have a opportunity to buy a 1 of 1 Palmer made by Gus for Palmer in 78'. It's a full 8 pointer with mother of pearl inlays. Have a letter of authenticity and bill of sale from 78'. Old-timer I shoot with said he would sell it to me buy I really don't have a clue what I should pay or offer to start it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting that he offered to sell to you without giving a price.

I am sure there will be a lot of Palmer folks here that will give you an idea,,, but my idea is that it is cool as hell.

I wouldn't let that one get away...

Really cool

I think he was feeling me out cause he said to make him an offer. Not even sure what that should be.

If you give me his contact info I'd be happy to feel him out for you. :grin-square:

All kidding aside, this may be a very important (valuable) cue, I don't know Palmers well, myself.

The two az members who I would seek opinions from would be TATE (Chris) and Type79 (Jay), both Palmer afficionados.

GL and pls keep us posted on how this goes.

best,

I would offer $1000 and get a reaction.

Assuming the documentation is complete, there is no way to get hurt there.

If the bill of sale speaks to Gus having made it and it being 1 of 1 you would have something very special. Or the same could be said depending on who issued the Letter of Authenticity, if the letter is from Palmer (Balner), Gus, or on either of their letterhead/stationary, I would go with the $1000 offer as well.

It's a rare Palmer BUT I have doubts it was made by Gus Szamboti. I were you I'd send pics to Barry Szamboti and have him take a look providing he wasnt the one who wrote the COA. If he was of course the cue would be worth a ton. If he wasnt the COA may not be worth the paper it's written on. Barry is the only one I would trust for this info.

It's worth a K to find out for sure.

Wow

What a cue!

I think we are all salivating over your find.

Most certainly worth at least a grand, probably a couple times that.

Good luck with it.

Only difference I see between your cue and the one in article is the butt. Window v. palmer inscription. and circles below wrap

Forearm is same except for ring above the wrap. Still has that Gus look!

Regards
Dave

It's similar to a 3rd Catalog Model 19 with a version of the 3rd Catalog Model 8 back-end. According to Chris Tate, Gus Szamboti did supply the Model 19 forearms to Palmer.

It's value would be subjective as some people desire catalog cues while others desire one-offs. A number of Palmer models were made with Szamboti forearms and Spain blanks but they have only a certain and definite value but unfortunately those values are a fraction of the values of cues made in their entirety by Szamboti.

This cue would appeal to Palmer collectors interested in cues from the 3rd Catalog. It would be interesting to see the letter of authenticity and who prepared the document.

He sent me this when I questioned the Gus relation. He said he will show me the authenticity letter too. I'll share it when I get it..

As well as I can read Chris' email, I would say he is accurate in his assessment.

Two areas of this cue are interesting:
- the white tenon, and
- the early foil.

If you acquire the cue, it would be interesting to see clear close-ups of the cue.

Good luck.

Gus did the 8 point blanks for Palmer because Gus was only one who could do it where they wouldn't crack. My mistake.

Since neither are putting any real figures out there I'd offer a hundred bucks just to get the ball rolling and see where it goes from there. Of course yards don't want to poss the old guy off and kill the deal , but he may need money - otherwise why would he ever even consider selling it??? Good luck and yes the hundred offer was kind of a joke but my point is start low because you can always gomup, but can't go down😊

I wouldn't hazard a guess on this one. I did find it funny when I was offered $400 for my model M...
