Is Shaw the best player on American soil

An excuse? You do realize it takes athletes a number of years to reach their potential. A major league baseball player is much better at 28 than he was at 23.

You can think Shaw now plays the same speed he did five years ago if you want but it simply isn't true.

Using your logic, everyone reaches their potential when they are 16 and never gets any better.

Shane is better today than he was 5 years ago. He has won 4 of the last 5 US opens. He only won one before he turned 28.

I never said anything about Shane taking a break. I simply said compare Shane at 28 vs Jayson at 28. If you can't see the logic in that, I do not know what else to tell you.

I get it now, Shaw is the BEST 28yr old player on American soil today.....gotcha!

You are something else. Do you act like this in public?

Actually, I'm worse, because I don't swallow this bullshit in public anymore than I swallow it here on AZB. Shaw is not leading in the tournament money list.or in the points standings for this year, and Shane beat him like a red headed step child in their race to a 100....but somehow you wannabe' believers hold Shaw at a higher place than you do SVB....that right there is down right funny!

See, there is your problem. I never made the argument that Shaw is better than Shane right now because he isn't. I do not think Shaw has reached his full potential yet. I said Shaw now is comparable to where Shane was five years ago.

If you think Shaw will never get any better, then that is your opinion. Maybe Shane will get better than he is right now. Only time will tell.

How long ago did they play that race to 100?

So far this year he has won:

$50,000 1st Kuwait 9-Ball Open
$25,000 1st Challenge of Champions 2016
$16,000 1st DCC 2016 10B Challenge
$8,000 1st Turning Stone Classic XXVI
$7,000 1st 5th Annual Steinway Cl.
$2,500 1st 28th Ocean State 9-Ball Championship
$1,800 1st Eastern St. Open/Pro C'ship 2016
$1,750 1st 7th NE P&F HOF 9B Open
$1,100 1st PPA Tour 2016 #5 Open/Pro
$960 1st PPA Tour 2016 #12 Open/Pro

Seems to me that the first three listed are prestigious events. Maybe they are only prestigious if Shane wins?

Those are nice wins but the title of the thread is best player on American soil. It's the first time Shaw ever won anything at DCC and the 10 ball is a side event not part of the official tournament. Pagulayan won master of the table.

To me best player would be a guy who can play 14.1, one pocket, 9 ball and 10 ball.

But, if you want him to be the best player then that's fine with me. I doubt if Hohman would ask for weight in 14.1. I doubt if several guys would ask for weight in one pocket. I doubt if Shane or Pagulayan would ask for weight in 9 ball or 10 ball.

ever notice that the "best player in the universe" du jour is ultimately measured against the same guy every time?

that says something.

Yep one day Shane might just win one of them dem world tittle things

No he is not.

Shane is the best.

Shaw has had a very good year and I wish him the best.

Shane has had a very good decade!

I don't think any one person can ever named as the best on US soil simply because of the number of players that do not enter tournaments due to the low payouts across the domestic industry

Age matters, but you put too much emphasis on it. MLB player Jason Heyward had great offensive stats his rookie and 3rd year in the league (ages 20 and 22), yet he is 27 now and has been a disappointment offensively ever since. Most improve during these years, yet there are exceptions. Any sports fan and/or fantasy sports fan (the latter would be even more acutely aware), that athletes hit a ceiling or peak. We have all witnessed Shaw enjoy a great improvement in his already solid game from a few years ago. Yet, I think it's a mistake to just assume he will continue on this upward trajectory. Would I be surprised if Shaw is widely considered the best player on the planet in a few years? Not at all. Would I be surprised if Shaw has more success in the next 5 years than Shane had in the last 5? Absolutely. I don't think you can take away Shane's last 5 years to accurately gauge these two players. Yet, even if you did put 28 year old Shane against Shaw, he still has a better resume.

Yeah, but they are high enough to warrant entering if you are elite enough to be in consideration to be the best. For the year thus far, Van Boening and Shaw have both made well more than the average lawyer. What they made is pitiful in comparison to other top athletes, but it's still not bad.

lmfao

he's a multiple world champ in different disciplines hampered at the moment due to injury

Shaw wants no bite of that apple believe me

I'm a big fan of Darren, but this is uninformed. Shaw has shown incredible all around skills of late.

In 9-ball, Shaw is on a tear with wins at WPA Kuwait, the Steinway Classic, Turning Stone and the Challenge of Champions.

In 10-ball, Shaw won the Big Foot Challenge at Derrby City, played on ten foot tables. Yes, the field was just sixteen players, but it is nonetheless the toughest 10-ball field of the year and a very hard event to win.

In 8-ball, Shaw just won the Make it Happen event, and beat Appleton along the way.

In 14.1, Shaw finished third at the World 14.1, and was the one who eliminated Appleton.

In bank pool, at Derby City, Shaw got to the final, where he lost to the legendary Brumback.

In one pocket, Jayson finished folurth at Derby City.

Appleton is legendary as an all-around talent, and will one day be conted as a BCA Hall of Famer, but it's time to count Shaw as an incredible all-around talent who can compete with almost anybody across all the disciplines.

What's the injury, need of a heart transplant? It seems his lack of stellar play is always followed by an excuse from him placing some sort of blame. Perhaps his moniker should be changed to Tin Man

Well winning tournament's is good and that's how they make a living but I sure would like to see them put some money up and play ..... Like Shane and Orcollo were gonna play a big one and never happened! I'll take Shame over any of them !!!!!!!!

Shane and Orcullo are nice people. Why would you rather have Shame over them? :D

Would you feel the same way knowing Chang beat Shane gambling right before Shane won this years U.S. Open?
