Oscar Left Out of Mosconi Cup... Again

im sorry but how does oscar not getting picked equate to when thorsten got overlooked? oscar hasnt won anything this year other than his own mezz tour and travelling the world playing in every MC event and just barely beating JB out who didnt play in any of the international events

Thorsten a multi world champion and at the time current 9 ball world champ doesnt get selected for euro team just how is that remotely similar?

I am just saying it is unfair he is overlooked just like Thorsten was. Oscar is top 5 or 6 every year and has been chosen once. Shit happens and like they say in fighting and life don't leave your fate in the hands of judges or a judge.

In my opinion, the above shows that Oscar wants to play in the Mosconi Cup whereas Bergman doesn't care. Bergman would have made more of an effort to make the team if it was important to him or he figured he would be a captain's pick no matter what.

I think Bergman plays better than Dechaine but for some reason he doesn't want to travel overseas to play international events. Maybe Sky will talk him into going more often in the future. There is definitely a lot of money to be made in those events.

I have it from a source who chooses to remain anonymous Oscar was offered a spot on the squad but only if big bird and cookie monster were placed on the team also. The organizers were okay with big bird but were afraid cookie monster would scare the European audience.

Somebody Agrees With ME! :)

This guy finishes top 6 nearly every year. He is 5th in points and doesn't get chosen once again. Bergman gets picked and I understand Mark Wilson and his relationship with Justin but still. I don't want to take anything away from Justin as he is a ferocious player. I think Oscar is a great person and player, a shining example. He did well on Mosconi Cup when he played and if I recall the USA actually won that year. Maybe next year.

It is about time somebody agrees with me regarding Oscar. The sad fact is that he wanted to play this year. He mentioned quietly he won't pursue Mosconi Cup team and or points next year. Too late! :sorry:

Cookie Monster = Earl Strickland?

Who is big bird?
Cookie Monster = Earl Strickland? Great player. Poor attitude.

Let's clarify. I'll speak for Oscar as he is a good friend of mine and I have talked to him about this extensively. Oscar wants to play in the Mosconi Cup but he is not going to make it his focus for the year. He is going to play in tournaments, he is going to win tournaments, he is going to gamble, and then if the Mosconi Cup happens, it happens.

Hopefully Matchroom gets the points/tournaments resolved. I've talked all about before what is wrong with it so I won't repeat myself but think about this....I have read over and over that the US players need to go play in the big World events so they can have 'like' competition that the Euros get throughout the year. So Oscar decided to go to the China Open instead of staying home and driving less than 4 hours from his house to Las Vegas to pay in the US bar table events in Vega$. This happened for two reasons --- 1) Oscar really wanted to play in the China event. 2) The Us bar tables events dates were changed cause they took so long to secure a venue when Reno didn't work out. No one will ever know the real story.

End result - the US bar table events were scheduled at the same time as the China Open. Oscar already had his plans, flights, etc for China so there was no discussion of altering his plans. You don't just pick up and go to China.
Oscar went to China, won a match but didn't make it to the top 32 and get any Mosconi Cup points. Overall, he came in 5th in points with 190. Dechaine came in 3rd in points with 236. Oscar can play on a bar table, believe it or not. So if he had gone to Vegas, played in all 3 of those events which had a watered down field as well, and done solidly, chances are he would have gotten the 47 points to pass Dechaine. Then Oscar would have been on the US team and Dechaine would be sitting at home.

Again, Matchroom please get it right in 2017.

Love Oscar, love his game. Would love to see him compete for us again.

But let's ease up on the hindsight folks. Whose to say that would change everything/anything?

I'd take a team of Oscars anytime to represent us, and be proud
of them win or lose, because for sure they would give it everything
they've got!!!! Wouldn't mind a Hatch or two either.....:) Just sayin'

I'm not saying that our guys aren't giving us their best this year, as
I haven't seen any of it.... but a new dynamic might be a good thing,
so I may as well dream...

Right, especially when Justin, who was chosen over Oscar, has been playing pretty well. I'd also like to see Oscar on the team, but who's to say it was the wrong decision this year.

OK, I will say it. They aren't giving us our best as a country. We need new blood and a psychologist to give a couple of sessions to the group.

Klinsman is no longer the USA soccer coach either.

Maybe we could get Babyface Gulyassy to help. He is a cool customer.

Definitely would like to see OD instead of MD.

The top 3 points earners were Van Boening with 418, Dechaine with 249, and Woodward with 248.

So Dominguez would have needed 59 more points to get in the top 3 (or 58 to tie for 3rd), not 47. To get 58 points at the US Bar Table events (21 points for first, 17 for second, 16 for 3rd in each event) would have required winning all 3 events or winning 2 and getting 2nd or 3rd in the 3rd event.

No one played in all 28 of the points events. Morris and Dechaine didn't play at the USBTCs, either.

Thanks for the correction. Makes me feel better. I went to the AtLarge thread here for the points and must have viewed the wrong total/date.

Either way, any player would have benefited from staying home instead of playing an international event. To me, that is dumb.

Yes, the 236 total for Dechaine was before the final event in Kuwait, where he and Shane both picked up 13 points and Dechaine moved into 2nd place.
