they will keep a high school kid out. not a real burglar. he will cut through them like butter. and now he knows where your goods are.
if you are unlucky and he cant get in he justs waits till you come home and beats the heck out of you with a hammer until you open the safe for him. then takes it all anyway and maybe kills you.
just insure your sticks and make your house less desirable to breakins and hope for the best.
Best policy is not to let anybody know what you have. Keep a low profile.
But that isn't always very realistic. Everybody that posts valuable cues here has exposed themselves to an extent.
IMHO it is best to have numerous layers. Cameras and alarms. A safe or even just a locked steel cabinet that is in a room with a door that is more secure than average.
How much what you have is worth might help you figure out just how much you should spend protecting it. Sometimes security measures will lower your insurance, so that should be looked into.
Nosy neighbors can help too.
Many such burglaries are in fact done by amateurs or kids. If you have enough conspicuous consumption to warrant a professional coming after your stuff then you likely have the means to live with elevated security measures as well.
I like my brother's house for an example. He lives in a gated and patrolled community. He has a safe room in his house, with gun ports and accessible but hidden weapons. His gun room is a secured room with poured reinforced concrete walls, a heavy steel door with a substantial bolting mechanism. Inside that room there are gun safes that are attached to the structure. There are cameras and alarms everywhere with battery back-ups of course and wireless connections so cutting the wires to his house won't help a thief.
He has a lot to protect, and the means to put measures in place.
For typical average people with a couple or three large cue cases I think a gun safe is a relatively inexpensive measure.
Oh...and a big mean dog helps too.:thumbup:
