Hi Manwon,
I'm certain the most expensive cue ever bought was the LAST WORK of GUS SZAMBOTI... This is the fancy 8pt cue Gus never finished.. This cue is the Holy Grail of cues and is pictured in the Billiards Encyclopedia....
I'm pretty sure about this because I sold the cue for the Szamboti Family...
This was a private transaction and all detail are confidential..

Thank you Ken!!!

I was dying to say something, but felt I didn't have to right to say it since Barry told me this kinda privately, BUT! you were the broker for this cue.

Thanks very much for taking the time to post:) , I am grateful for the information, concerning this transaction. I had heard stories about this cue selling for a great deal of money, I will also respect everyones wishes and not post any additional information about this transaction.

However, you have a great dealing of knowledge on this subject. What is the most ever paid for a cue where confidentiality is not an issue?

Thanks again and have a nice day!!!!!!!

The cue Thomas built sold for $40,000.00 ,[ it's list was
103K,], to movie star Mr. Rick Rodgers. Rick told me this a few years back, while we were in French Lick, Ind. at a seniors event.
Thomas came with his 103K, because he was trying to top mine at 100K. Differance is, I got my asking price. He didn't...

Please post a pic of a cue that you have built that has the same amount of intircate inlays as TW celtic not pattern cue. I would love to see it:rolleyes:

IF i had it i would not want my name mentioned as the owner either..however if a person were to let out the price (on purpose by the way) wouldn't that help establish the cues future resale value ? i am just curious..thanks................................................................................... i just cannot imagine having soomething of that value and only looking at it once in a while and not playing it..:) Have a nice nite

Blud, I remmember reading here that you were making Grady a special $25,000 (or was it $50,000) cue. How's that coming ? Any pictures available ? Is it jewel encrusted ? (JAM's post reminded me)

I thought the holy grail of cues was the "Golden Balabushka" worth over $250K. I think Pool and Billiard magazine had an article about it a while back.

I saw that Thomas Wayne; Rick Rogers was one of the hosts of the American cue collectors convention in Park City, Utah in 2004 I think. It was amazing, along with all the others there.

Maybe all them blades on the McD intimidator would help with the cut shots.

One of the problems as Ken pointed out is possibly breaching confidentiality. I thought Ernie still had his silver / ivory cue. As far as Bluds deal, I don't know anything about it, I saw Sigels diamond cue, I don't know what Rick paid for the Celtic Prince. The golden Balabushka?? No one knows..

I don't think anyone will ever get a solid, and more importantly truthful answer. Just know that it's more than the average man makes in a year..

I think a better discussion might be "Whats the highest you have ever seen a sneaky pete sell for?" You see billiardcue.com has an expensive one (Gus), Martyne had an alledged Bushka one, I have seen Scruggs sell for 600+.

i can understand confidentiality so they don't get burglarized..but i don't undestand why someone would want a super high end cue (say over $20,000.00) that is in a safe and they don't play with or talk about..i realize some have such an outrageous amount of money they don't know what to do with ..but like that ultimate Gus cue..what good is having it..i am happy these people have it in their lives but i sure would want to display it in my home pool room ....would some of you that deal in these super high end cues elaborate on this .without mentioning owners can you say how they store or display them........thanks :)

Google: Thomas Wayne Celtic Prince cues.

It went for $103,000 to a collector in 1998 I believe...

Thomas Wayne is based here in Anchorage. I know a few guys who are fortunate enough to shoot with his sticks...

Rick P.

I know Rick Rogers, who owns the "Celtic Prince." He's a really nice guy, and needless to say he's got a fantastic collection of cues. It's always fun to see what cue he's got with him whenever he comes into the poolroom.

I was being very vague because I know a lot of the numbers but its not my place to say. If I had a penchant for a need to prove I know something and want to sound important, I would have said. But I leave that for those deprived of attention and self worth.

I can tell you Mark has his cues in a safe, since I play with my cue(s) they are pretty open. I do have a few display cabinets made especially for cues when the time comes.

Didn't Jim Rempe have a Meucci cue stick that sold for a hefty sum overseas many years ago? I cannot locate the article, but if pushed, I could post it up. I'm hoping somebody knows the answer, though!

JAM
Yup. The Taj Mahal cue made by Bob Meucci was a pretty pricey cue. I think I heard $100K, but I might be wrong.

There are several cuemaker who have reportedly had a cue sell for over six figures including Thomas Wayne, Ginacue, and Mike Lambros.

Fred

What about the Lambros "Dragon" cue? I believe that was sold for quarter-mil. The entire cue was solid ivory with inlaid rubies, mother-of-pearl (or abolone, I forget). That cue was featured in a magazine, so it's public knowledge.

Other than that crazy McDermott does anyone have pics or links to any of the cues that have been talked about?

The last post on page one of this thread shows the T.W. celtic prince cue.

Rick P.

And, for what it's worth, the Wikipedia states that the Thomas Wayne Celtic Prince cue "is the most valuable artisian cue in the world (as of 2004)".

This obviously doesn't prove that it IS the most valuable though. There are probably at least a few "discreetly made" cues that are sitting in collections that hit 6 figures also.

The Last Work Szamboti was sold to a pominent collector who has displayed it at one of the ICCS cue shows( I think it was Park City).. I'm sure he will bring it to other ICCS shows as well.. It is not being hidden, just the financial details were asked to be a private matter which I will respect..

Ernie(Ginacue) has been offered big dollars for his 1966 Ivory Handle, but yet to sell it.. The owner of the Golden Bushka, who is from New York, still owns the cue.. These 2 cues yet to be sold should bring similiar pricing..
Best,
Ken
