What u speak of is very true. I feel blessed to live the life I had and my story goes when I was a baby my parents were a lawyer and a nurse so we were very well off. Unfortunately they were badly into cocaine and by the time I was 10 I was being raised by my granny who had custody because my mom was out in the streets n my dad was in jail. My granny raised me and my little brother(10 years younger) and sacrificed her golden years to give us the love we deserved and needed. I lived a very poor life compared to other families near by often going without electricity and even having our water shut off because she was supporting us on her small pension and taking care of the house at the same time. I'd never change a thing about it I at least had my grandmother and she was a saint and eventually both parents got off drugs and now are living good lives. I actually turned to selling drugs as a youth because the attraction of having money for food and being able to get my little brother presents on his birthday and Christmas was enough to suck me in and I'm not proud of it but I absolutely used the money I made for the right things but eventually I got into trouble myself and after having a son of my own turned my life around completely and now I'm just a working stiff doing construction 8-430 mon-fri to support my family. Basically the reason for my post is I had a rough upbringing as far as Americans are concerned but compared to 3rd world countries I was a king. My dad always told me things could be way worse and he's right. The trials n tribulations I went through as a child shaped me into the person I am today and it's not impossible but if u grow up with everything u want and need being constantly spoiled and pampered it's going to be tough to have the extreme dedication and work ethic someone has that's trying to get out of a horrible situation.
My take is on American pool is on par with what a lot are saying but along with what I'm saying for most Americans a professional pool career will most likely leave u way less off than basically any other career choice even working as a register at wawa or McDonald's. There's ample amounts of full time jobs in America that will pay a steady paycheck and unless ur the top 5 players in the country the 250-350 a week you'd make at McDonald's is way more that what you'll make playing pool in the long run. On the flip side in the phillipeans it's the opposite and if pool is the most lucrative of jobs it makes sense why everyone there aspires to be pool players. Think about it like this for us playing professional sports is extremely lucrative so most youngsters dream of being the next lebron James like someone said but in the Phillapeans there idols are pool players hence the way they all want to grow up to be Efren or busty. When was he last time you heard a kid from the us say he wants to grow up to be the next earl or Shane? I've never heard it but I'm sure all the kids In Manila want to grow up to be Efren.
I didnt say Mike had nice childhood, but trust me - for instance in sub-Saharan Africa 2000 children die every single day because of poor sanitation and no access to drinkable water. I guess these children would trade their childhood with Mike anytime. But my remarks are idiotic according to you so you may discard my opinion at your pleasure

No problem you are certainly entitled to your opinions but that does not change the facts. There is a definition of extreme poverty for the world and there are some in America that live at that level (Mike Tyson was one). The fact that some in extreme poverty have it even worse than others does not change the facts. (Good idea to do some research before calling someone out)

Maybe that is basically because we are proud of our national states, not Europe as a whole. The only time we cheer for Europe is during Mosconi Cup and during big international events where we cheer for european players
Anybody considering Europe as equal to USA regarding loyalty of its citizens got it wrong. I am from Czech Republic and I am proud of my home country, I swore an oath to protect my country during my time in military and in time of the need (if such comes) I am ready to fulfill that oath. Also we got the best beer in the world and beautiful women :wink::grin: Am I proud of being European? Well...I am indiferrent to that fact, Europe is and almost always has been fractured into many national states even though European Union tries to tighten that bond (...and many people are against it =) Brexit). But it says nothing about the quality of life in Europe, it differs greatly from state to state, some Euro states are even WAY richer than USA per capita while most of them are not but it doesnt affect peoples love for their own country. So yeah, you wont probably hear/read people saying "I am sooo proud to be European", but you can definitely encounter people being proud German, French, Czech, Italian..:smile:

Being a known entity is being a minority on AzBilliards, but anonymous members, again, like yourself, are in the majority. For some, it's fun to attack others with mean-spirited words while hiding behind the security of their computer monitor. There's a word for that, but I'll let you think of what that might be.

you are dead on most people have never experienced the level of poverty that's prevalent in the PI . what Americans consider poor people many Filipinos would be considered rich in comparison . I live in the PI about half of the time I have a place in Clark Angeles city . there are kids as young as 4 years old selling plastic bags at the markets just to get a few pesos so they can have rice for the day . PI is my second home and I love it there but until you experience it first hand on the ground , people have no clue
