Shot at 13:54. I have watched this 10 times and am trying to understand what he was trying to do here. And was he loading this up with inside? Was he thinking he was going to glance off the first stripe and spin in behind the 11 ball?

Also, if you see a shot you like better here I'd love to hear about it.

He intended to get the cue ball on the other side of the 11 ball.

The accustats video of Efren vs Shannon in the finals of one pocket from 2 or three years ago is worth the purchase. Great example of power one pocket vs finesse.

This will start just before the shot: https://youtu.be/g0k6Chaz1BM?t=13m51s

I think he was trying to hit full on the 11 just on his side of it and knock it up by the 8 to maybe lock both of them up. He played the 7 three times across to his side for the offensive part of the shot.

I agree. The way he kinda leans in looks like he was trying to hide behind that stripe.

The same shot with a little hop on the cueball would have probably been effective.

The hop doesnt allow the cueball to draw immediately.

Hill/hill Efren played an uncharacteristic shot for him after the break. More of a power one pocket shot and he got what is sometimes the problem with power one pocket - a double kiss. 7 was supposed to kick the 2 out of the way but the cue ball hit the 7 before it got to the 2. He usually finds a "calmer" shot than something like that.

I like going between the 11 and 8, spinning 2-rails into the eight, knocking it and possibly the 15 to my side, and going uptable.

What was he trying to do at the end when he whiffed an entire pool ball. I honestly never thought I'd see the day; that definitely the equivalent of a golfer swinging and missing the entire golf ball as far as I'm concerned.

When you are trying to "thin" a ball missing contact completely is no worse then hitting too thick. He missed that is all.

He actually had a six ball with side boards to shoot. I haven't seen a lot of efrens recent play but that was probably the worst shot I've ever seen him hit, especially considering his options and the hill hill situation. You're perfectly entitled to think he just made a ho-hum error of course.

I think he was trying to take the seven ball out and then carom off it into the eight and send it into the two balls on the bottom rail.
I think he just hit the 7 too thick and the stun took too soon.
