Dear pocket size snobs of the world

I actually sent my rails back to Diamond to expand pro cut pockets to 4.625" and the sides to 5.125". They returned as modified. Anyway, I sold the table and am now enjoying my GCI at 4.75".
BTW, why are you wanting to enlarge from pro-cut?

B/c the table plays tough tough. I really need more practice time though. Just been way busy with work. Table is only 3 months old.

If you dont mind, how much did that run you? PM if necessary.

this Z dude obviously knows things.

Read it again.

I'm not sure who's worse...the people complaining about pockets, or the people complaining about the people complaining about pockets.

At least we can all agree there's only one correct way to aim.

If you haven't run at least 3 racks of 9ball in a row of a solid week of playing, or at least run 50 balls in straight pool, yet keep complaining about the pockets being too large, please take up golf.

Failing that, please adjust the frequency and volume of your pocket size related utterances to once a year and 2/10 (10 being maximum achievable volume by a human voice), respectively.

The rest of the world thanks you in advance.

I agree. And, I feel the same way about those that complain that 7' tables are kiddie tables and too easy to play on.

My New Pockets

I just got the pockets on my table tricked out.
Let's see you Players work these pockets!

I once saw Earl run a 8 pack on a Billiard table. I didnt think it could be done but he did it!! Was a fantastic display of athleticism ive ever seen!!

That is pretty good! I have run through a 6 pack on a billiard table. It was Shiner Bock and I almost got thrown out for sitting on the table rail to do it!:grin-square:

tight pockets will never make you better. it will/may make you pocket balls better. but you lose out on learning position play from moving around the table.

tight pockets keep you from shootiung many banks and learning to play position for them.

all you really do is improve your 9 ball game to the point of pocketing balls and getting out from fairly standard positions. which you may do better than someone who shoots on larger pocket tables.

I disagree on the playing position part and the banking also

I complain about pocket size all the time, but never about being too large

I just bought a Centennial table and I want pockets at least 5 inches

I only play one pocket but at home I try to play straight pool but I have big trouble running 15 balls

in fact practicing straight pool has had an adverse effect on my shooting

I think I may start practicing 9 ball so that long shots don't scare me

Big pockets are better, tight pockets make me tighten up

Right before he passed away,Ronnie allen expressed the same sentiments
and he was really a good player.Wimpy told me that practicing on a big pocket table was good for his game, and he was really a good 9 ball player

I find the opposite to be true for me. When I play and practice on a 4 1/8 table playing 1P, then play on a 4 1/2 pocket table I find I'm much more comfortable running balls and playing shape from tougher positions. I will say that I think 4 1/2" is the best overall size corner pockets

Those who have completed such amazing feats, they have the right to *****?

Asking for a friend, see my disclaimer...

Yes, your friend meets the minimum requirement and is now sanctioned to complain as much as his heart desires.

There is no badge or anything, I'm afraid, but the licence to whine does come with a double 0 number of his choosing. Enjoy

ps. The additional perk is the ability to order a Martini, shaken not stirred, once and only once, without being called an ignorant and pretentious ass.
pps. The immunity from ridicule does not extend to bartenders rolling their eyes.

I agree.
I think training on smaller pockets makes it easier when going to another table.
A Brit snooker player told me he trains with conventional pool balls on a snooker table.
I didn't even know a pool ball would fit into the snooker table pockets. (?)
I didn't question him.

They do. I've done the same thing myself. Used to practise straight pool that way. It was interesting but not particularly productive IMO.
