Earl On MC...Just A Hunch

In 2013, Matchroom meddled in the selection process by naming American and European teams as the 20th anniversary teams. This led to the US sending some players who had done nothing to earn a spot and players, Strickland and Hatch in particular, who had done little in 2013 to justify a spot. The result of Team USA not being chosen on merit in 2013 was the biggest blowout in Mosconi Cup history, an 11-2 drubbing that still hurts. The 2013 Mosconi Cup, which was such a massacre that the fourth day of scheduled competition was unnecessary, sent me and most other attendees scrambling for a flight home a day earlier than scheduled.

There's exactly one way that Earl would be on the 2017 version of Team USA and that's if Matchroom meddles again in the selection process. Earl is, of course, a draw and he's still a fine player but he doesn't have the results in recent years to merit Mosconi Cup consideration. Johann won't select Earl unless Matchroom leans on him to do so, and as we saw in 2013, Matchroom is able to meddle with the selection process if they are so inclined.

Here's hoping that Matchroom learned its lesson in 2013, when its meddling with the selection process led to the worst Mosconi Cup since the event's inception.

US loses every year. I'd put Earl on for three reasons.

Earl has some personality and at least would make it entertaining.

Earl has a high gear and is as capable as anybody else with the possible exception of Shane.

There is legal gambling on the Mosconi Cup. I'm going to say it - Earl is going to give 100% and not dump. If that hurts some feelings then tough.

I'd put Earl on the team.

Personality doesn't win Cups.

All of the pros that are in consideration for the team have a high gear.

Are you implying that Shane, Skyler, Oscar, Billy, Bergman, or whoever else is in contention would dump or not give 100%?

And while you're sitting on the sidelines making fun of proficient pool players, they're surrounded by pool fans, pool aficionados, and people who appreciate their friendship and game. You can sit back and watch, Knocker. While the rest of us are having fun, you'll never know or experience the glory of pool at its best, because this is all you' re good at: knocking others on a pool forum, knocking pool legends on a pool forum, knocking well-meaning members of this forum.

It is because of members like you that many of us emigrated to FB where we can enjoy lively back-and-forths and fun colloquys about the game/sport we all love. Why come here and read unidentified banned membersm posting and troll knockers spewing ugly words about the professional players that still do exist in the States? There aren't that many of them left, in case you haven't noticed, but you don't care. The ones that are left, you'll continue to knock them to make yourself feel superior on a pool forum while you hide behind a ridiculous avatar with a hideous forum name that has a vulgar meaning. Nice choice, Pal!

Bend the knee when you mention their names again, Knocker.

Once again, a forum troll, who enjoys trolling threads as he does 24/7 on this forum, brings my other half's name in a thread for the reason of targeting me. Keith has never suggested he wants to be on Team USA in the Cup, and he doesn't deserve to have some forum troll ever utter his name from their troll digits.

So the guy says those players would make a great team and you(like always) come on here and bash him in every way that you could.
Way to keep it classy, as usual, you are the worst of the worst on here.

Birds of a feather stick together. You and he are both the same on this forum. Contribute very little pool-related matter, but just love to instigate others.

Enjoy the forum. The contributions here are deminishing, just like the lot of existing pool players, thanks to people just like you and your buddy. Keep up the good work. This fourm is a much better place with people like you in it.

To put an end to this thread before the trolls take off again on this thread, as they did in the other Earl thread, Earl is not on the team this year, so there you have it. :)

Who is on the team, though, may be pleasing to many.

Anyone else find it funny that the social media giant website that was originally designed to rate how hot college girls were is now primarily a website for the mothers and grandmothers of those girls, and that they flock there because it is a place where they get to censor others?

Enjoy Safebook, JAM.

Thanks so much.

I wonder why the professional pool players from around the world flock to FB instead of here to discuss pool-related matters. There just must be a reason, but I can't put my finger on it.

This forum is actually safe most times. It is moderated.

Back to topic of the thread. I will post the ages of all five Team USA members sine die, if anyhone is interested. ;)

Once again there you go attacking - the guy compliments Keith, Earl, Johnny, etc and you call him every name you can get away with - seriously, what is wrong with you???

Only my hairdressor knows for sure.

My info comes from hearsay. I did not hear it from any horse's mouth.

I can, however, pretty assuredly state that Team USA will be made up of four young guns and one seasoned pro. The seasoned pro will not be Earl Strickland. Hope that pacifies those bashing Earl.

There will be a new person to bash after it is announced. I'm laughing as I'm typing this because I know what is going to happen. Last week, it was Earl. When the announcement comes forth, it will be this poor fellow who will receive the wrath of AzBilliards Discussion Forum. :embarrassed2:

I thought u knew each player for sure and we're giving 5 ages in which case I could figure it out lol

I can give the ages of the players whose names were shared with me, I think.

I will have to consult my source first to make sure he/she is okay with it.

Stay tuned!

I'm hoping that my choices are selected.

Seasoned pro = Shane
Young Guns = Bergman, Sky, Oscar, and Thorpe.

This team IMO would have the best chance to stay together as team year after year and to play together with a good attitude.

Nothing wrong with this team but If josh Roberts made it over Oscar I wouldn't mind. I like your reasoning though building this years to team in order to set us up for future cups is smart.

Now that you mention it, I was thinking myself maybe Roberts instead of Thorpe. Can't go wrong with with either one I think.

EDIT: My reasoning of Oscar higher than Thorpe is due to Oscar's good attitude. Thorpe has had some attitude problems occasionally if things don't go his way.
