Is it time to sell my JF SW?

With the prices for SW cues where they are and SW starting to use ebony again, is now the best time to sell my ebony nosed JF era cue?

Is it just me or are JF era cues not getting the "value" respect to the level they once did?

Is it because post JF SW's are more readily available??

prefer a new sw to an older one

pre and post make no difference to me
i honestly think the new ones are better

but i never thought the pres were

i am no expert on the sales prices

They are cool.. But it seems so many dont care about stuff like that anymore and I'm not sure I'll be alive when those things matter...

The market is still huge for that South West.
Collectors and players will want the cue, and just because they have ebony again, I'm sure there is a substantial up charge for it, there is still a 13-year wait list, and a player is going to want a Franklin to play with.

If I sold that South West, it would not be because of a little ebony in Laurie's shop.
 
Look at Coster cues. My friend has a fancy one and turned down 20k cash for it 10 years ago (true story). Now, I doubt he could get 5k for it.

I think there comes a time when very old things lose value, becaue the only people who valued them high are dying off, and the newer generation does not care about it.

Me, if I wanted a SW, I'd prefer a new one over a 30 year old one.

Well, I'd have to agree with BB. Don't sell anything shortly before Christmas. People have other things to spend on.

After that, well, it's all timing. And, that is one nice Southwest.

IMO, Don't sell it here, market it in Asia. But, without knowing what you have, cornerstones cues are exactly that. Cornerstones cues should be the last to go. That has been my strategy when I thinned out my herd.. If I had a four point ebony nose JF SW, it would be a fifth point to my square.

I get ya. The unavailability of ebony was a big deal for a while. Why they couldn't get any to their standards I dont know because makers I know had no problem getting it.

I guess my concern is JF cues used to command a good premium but with so many younger players who weren't from that era having access to post Jerry cues I'm afraid the allure of having a cue touched by the master may be dwindling..

Tell me Im wrong......EASY...About THIS thought..LOL ;)

At this point the guys you are referring to are buying low deflection stuff anyway.
What you're feeling is right now the big money is being spent on the new cues with the fancy JP's and extra laminates.
The Frankins like your cue aren't that far behind, and if you want to sell it you will always get close to top dollar.
I wouldn't worry about it, if you want to invest in something else, marketing your cue would be fun.
A South West collector has to want it, it's a Franklin with original Franklin jps.
What you don't want to do is expose the cue unnecessarily

I have been told that the same two people that made them then make them now. Any truth to that?

Yes and no... Jerry did a lot of the work as well for many years and was helped by a few others. Two of those are still there and build the cues to the same specs.

I very highly respect them now just as much as I did 25 years ago. That's pretty strong.

As do I and I also respect Ford Motor Co. too and a Shelby Mustang will always be fun to drive but it would sure be great to drive one that the namesake actually designed and maybe even had his hands on :smile:
