I had the same thing happen to my Schuler, sent it to Jacoby (took over production of Schuler) it was the A joint, cost a couple hundred to repair, they did a very good job. Couldn't replace the cue for that price.

Now onto Noise > Generally loose weight bolt(s)as mentioned among other things members have brought up and made suggestions on. I have seen just barley loose bolts in lower butt make noise in what sounds like something is loose mid cue ie: joint, shaft, tip. Snug em a bit and good to go.

but sometimes when a cue develops a buzz it is loose at the a joint

a cue maker can probably fix it

hitting the cue on the side to watch the shaft vibrate can loosen the connection
or so Jerry Franklin told me one day when we were in his shop talking as he fixed one

it can happen to any cue with that construction

buy another cue is the easy solution
 
It could be the "A" joint or it could be one of many other things. Other than a loose weight bolt, it's pretty much going to be a glue failure at some point. It could be anything, and will need a good inspection to be sure. A lot of glues makers use cure harder/stiffer than the wood. It won't flex with the wood as the cue flexes & vibrates during play. A fissure will open in the glue joint to allow the flex. The buzz sound is the crack in that glue opening and closing at the same frequency the cue vibrates at. Aside from a weight bolt or glue breakdown, it's cracked wood. In any case, if you can't find it easily on your own, you'll have to get it looked at, preferably by the maker.
 
This may sound a little silly but I bet it would work perfect. If you can get your hands on a stethoscope , place it up and down the button as you tap it. It will become readily apparent where exactly the noise is coming from. We use them often on cars to find vacuum leaks and such.

This is only the case if the maker uses glue that cures harder/stiffer than the wood. Cue makers pride themselves in using the strongest, hardest, toughest glue that can endure the most abuse. Heck, I used to spend $150/gal for glue. The problem is that while the glues are as awesome as advertised, we aren't using them in an application they were designed for, and failure occurs not because the glue is bad, but because we used the wrong glue or used it in the wrong way. Might be great for a while, but eventually it'll fail.

Glues that cure harder and stiffer than the cue's wood(s) is a bad idea because the cue flexes & vibrates during normal play. If the glue will not flex with the wood, something has to give. Either the wood fibers will begin breaking down at the joint, or a fissure will open in the glue seam, allowing the cue to vibrate and flex to its full potential. In doing so, as the cue vibrates, that fissure or crack will open & close at the same frequency as said vibration, creating that buzzing sound. Doesn't mean the cue is junk or that it'll hit bad. It only means there's an adhesive failure that causes a funky noise. Given that the most popular adhesives for "A" joints is epoxy that gets ridiculous hard, it's not a big surprise where the buzz comes from.

That would be the nuts if it works. The only issue I could see is that the vibration carries along the cue so efficient that it may be difficult pinpointing the source.
