In one pocket, you only have "one" pocket so it's always called...lol.
Ah, now I get it. Thought it was just the name of the game and you could stil shoot at 6 pockets, Duh! Big time fool

I’m amazed. This guy is the king of trolls. My hat’s off to you sir.
My earliest years playing were in the 1970s playing 14.1, so I prefer strict call pocket in all games, even 9-ball. Call pocket / Call Safe 10-ball is the ultimate rotation game for higher skilled players, in my opinion.
Yes, you don't. :grin-square:
Agree 100%
There is no reason to lose or win sets on a couple rolls...which often determine the outcome of an otherwise competitive set. Guy misses bad sticks you with a couple balls on the table in 9 ball...just agony.
The most-used definition of "two-way" I've heard is leaving the CB with position for the next ball while hiding it from the first one (in case you miss). I don't think any rule (except the old pushout rule) makes that impossible.“Two way shot” appears to have different meanings
Well, you still have a point since there are many shots in one pocket in which you might pocket any of two or three (or maybe four) balls in your pocket so slop still occurs. It is very much a part of the calculation on many shots.Ah, now I get it. Thought it was just the name of the game and you could still shoot at 6 pockets, Duh! Big time fool
And his MO is so predictable: post 'simple' question, allow discussions to occur, add parameters to the original issue and let everyone know they were wrong in their discussions, coz they didn't consider the issue with the added parameters.
I played it like that! It was a natural: 4 balls, 10 rails and 27 feet traveled, lock you up!
Much easier than running out.
Haha, but really, decent players rarely go full pooltard like that. Hacks, yes.
And that is why hacks play 9b. Far less predictable than other games.
I consider nothing simplistic, but I didn't see a reason to specify a game because I'm referring to any pool game. Feel free to name a game and then write your answer accordingly. You can give a different answer for every game. But in the poll I'm mostly talking about preference of either of the two concepts in general.
I doubt that any real players would prefer playing not calling a pocket vs called shot in any game, and many would rather play 9 ball called shot as well, or at least call the 9.

I think that’s only true if you make an uncalled ball (like your second example), and then it’s a push out. If you just miss your shot the opponent has to shoot - so two-ways work unless you slop something in.The "option" common in 10 ball does. This is where the opponent has the option to give the shot back if you call a shot and crap safe, or call safe and make a ball.

It intrigues me how simplistic you think the situation is....two choices huh?
...that's it for every billiard game?
Edit: by "no slop" I meant shot calling in general, i.e. both "call pocket" and "call everything"
