REVO Shaft Doubters, Got A Story For You

TRUE STORY:

I had occasion to be at a world renowned cue maker's shop in Marlborough, CT today.
I noticed he had a Revo shaft on his Pool table. I asked him if the jury was in yet on them. He picked it up, brought over a Pool ball, then wailed on the pool ball with the Revo several times like the ball owed him money. It was like a scene from Goodfellas.

Said cue maker then handed me the shaft and asked me to inspect it.
It was BE-YOND silky smooth. It was completely and totally unscathed.
Said cue maker then said it is without a doubt the most technologically advanced shaft on the market and nothing else comes close.
He went on to elaborate. I've been a DJ and am a Therapist so a lot of his engineering type language was lost on me but it was clear to me he thought there's nothing on the planet that can rival it.

Guess what I'm ordering today? -Z-

Well, I wonder why don't they do that in their ads?

Nice. I know the ding-proof aspect is a big deal for a lot of people. I hate dings, but I'm also very good at removing them. I'm personally more interested in the performance. I don't have a Revo shaft (except for the BK Rush which I LOVE), but I've hit with many. Its a foreign feeling, but not a bad feeling. The performance is undeniable however. I'm sure you will be very happy. Curious, did you go with the 12.4 or the 12.9?

I'm waiting until they come out with a 3/8-10 joint. Then I have to decide on the size. I was all for the 12.4, and have been playing with a 314-3 at 12.65...but recently switched back to my 314-2 at about 12.8 (yes it come to me a little big), and I've been playing better than ever. So maybe I'd do a 12.9 afterall.

Anyway good luck and enjoy,

I have been using the 12.9 and just ordered a 12.4 to see if there is any difference. I am quite curious as to which I will like better. My old precat 314's were approx. 12.5 and I used them for many many years....

Im bringing the 3/8-10 Revo (fit for my Gilbert) to SBE, if you’re around to try it.

Nice to hear a competitor giving a positive review. I shouldn't say competitor ....let's say a skilled professional complimenting something that is not his.

So you're ordering a shaft so you can wail on pool balls with no ill effect? I just wouldn't wail on pool balls with my shaft. My wood shafts are straight, dent free with not a mark on them, I'm not an Idiot either. Flame away, Brian.

So they're durable, is that what the ridiculous extra cost is for? Would be interesting to hear what the cuemaker or any top tier cuemaker said about something other than they're ding/dent proof and will never warp characteristics. They're obviously a good shaft but other than the obvious, are they Paul Bunyans head and shoulders above everything else? I saw Joey Gold drive a cue into solid brick, as in the pin of the cue while it was in the butt...like he was staking Count Dracula. Screwed the cue together and played no different, thats his G-10 pin. When I was in Dennis Searing's shop I had a Mezz shaft and he said "those are the best shafts out there". His comment had nothing to do with being able to swing it like Jose Canseco.

Many people that are not idiots get dents in their shafts. I think the idea is that if that shaft can withstand a total beating, then it will hold up well to normal wear and mild abuse.

Your best bet is to try one when the opportunity arises. The dent free thing is more like a bonus than the central point of the product. The performance is the main thing. Consistency, and super low deflection. I've tried them many times. I prefer the feel of wood, but that is what I'm used to so that doesn't mean too much. Pocketing balls with English is the real value of the Revo, from what I can tell.

Like I say though, try it for yourself. That's the only way to know if it has value *for you*.

I test hit with one, didn't like it. I don't see the cost being worth a little bit of gain, cheaper to just practice.

Most of my issues with pool are mental, no equipment is going to change that.

There are tons of the "nothing but old this and old that maple for me" that I beat so bad I feel guilty after we play.

And I do it with the very cue "all" of them hate on and say that it's overrated......etc.....as their paying off.

One of them plays with a black boar with a searing shaft and he says my revo cue is over priced and underperformed.....lol....

Again....as he is paying off,

Rake

I have a ding on my 12.9mm Revo shaft from accidentally dropping my cue.
The shaft landed on the metal part on the edge of the pool table.
It was like someone knocked on top of the cue and the whole thing dropped right out of my hand...lol.
Ding is about a millimeter deep and about 2 mm wide.
I wasn't that far away from the pool table either.
Luckily it's a little above where the bridge hand goes on even long bridges so I don't really ever feel it.
But it could just as easily have been right where all the bridge action is.
Far as I know there is exactly no way to get it out...
I'm still using the shaft though.

If Revo shafts are durable or not is a bit soon to say. It`s down to how carbonfibre handles stress. Metals and wood will bend and stretch, carbonfiber is rigid as hell and even though it`s close to breaking point you want know a thing about it before it`s snaps in two in an instant. Seeing that Predator really hasn`t shared much about the construction and that I see people breaking, playing 3C and abusing the hell out of their $500 shafts I`m interested in seeing how much over engineering Predator actually have done.

Holy hell, talk about beating a dead horse...

What more is there to talk about? They play great, some people like them, some people don’t. I’m sorry but this is has become redundant.

Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a f*ck...
