Hi, this is SVB's mom, Timi. I am trying to figure out the value of the cues we have stock piled over the years for insurance purposes... I attached a picture, which includes... a jump cue, a Mali, Shane's Joss, a Josswest, a Palmer, a Shon, a Kikel, Shane's first Meucci, and a Meucci. I hope I attached the picture correctly???

I think $2000 would be more than what the cues are worth, IMO.

Number of shafts per cue makes a difference. Close ups of Josswest and Schon would help with value.

since you want it for insurance purposes
i would use an established cue seller business to give you an "official" appraisal
i e a business with a website

Maybe I should be more descriptive... the Josswest is 45 years old, the Palmer if 45 years old and the Shon is 45 years old... Someone offered me $1800 20 years ago for the Shon... and Shane won his first world tournament with that one.

The Palmer has either a Szamboti or Spain front, there's $2.5K right there.

And they all have two, original, shafts. I have been calling for two days trying to get an honest idea of value. The insurance company wants information if any are over 2500$ and I believe at least 4 of these are.

Schon started in 1981. It looks like it could be an 80s model. Tournaments he played with each cue could make a difference to some people.

It is a nice collection. Ideologist gave fair values for insurance purposes I believe.

-$500

Those are good replacement values for insurance, from left-to-right. Resale value may be less. Ignore the unpleasant people who give you bad advice. Cool collection!

I agree.

I would even say you are perhaps a little conservative for insurance value. Why? Well, it's hard to value cues with provenance connecting them to a champion. And cues like that Joss, with his name inlaid? Tough.

If there are any championships linked to any of those cues it can boost the value as well.

Sadly, such cues will never have the attraction of something like Mizerak's Balabushka. Whole different ball of wax.

Very cool collection. I am very happy to see it here.

His first world? Yeah...that boosts the value.

You will want documentation of that. Pictures of him playing the cue would help. As well as a letter from him.

If you go over certain values they may want documentation or appraisals beyond "claimed value".

Or, if you want to go with "claimed value" they might charge a higher premium without an appraisal.

You might consider formal appraisal for the more valuable ones anyway.

Personally, I would document the heck out of all these cues.

.

The Joss with Shane’s name inlayed?....43 million.
....and that’s pretty close to priceless.

Probably unique

Would it be correct to figure in who owns them and if that adds to the value, or "for
insurance purposes" would you just be figuring the cost of a new cue (if available) from that company?
I have some sports memorabilia, as I'm sure we all do, replacement cost
for a few baseballs was about $24, the value of my signed baseballs was placed at an
amount far greater by an appraiser for insurance purposes.

edit:
OOPS! Sorry Doc, I missed you post about this very thing

Gee, I dunno...a letter from Shane might be hard to get. Those world champions are awfully busy. ;)

I wouldn't have a clue. The celebrity ownership does add value. Just check the additional value given to any car owned by Steve McQueen.

I can make him write something out when I have to make him dinner this Sunday

I'm sure you could...just my bad sense of humor, I guess. After all the food grabbed on the tournament trail, I'm guessing Shane really appreciates having dinner at home! :)

You know, I admire Shane's talent...number one on the planet is one hell of an accomplishment! I also realize that at my age of 74, only a few days of his life would kill me. The airports, living in hotels & motels, the restaurant meals...

The value of the cues is one thing...the value of the memories? Priceless!
