A serious pause in my stroke

Mosconi drank a lot of coffee and smoked three packs a day. In his early 40's he suffered a stroke and gave up the bad habits. Later on in life he suffered from the onset of Alzheimers.

If you are speaking of ESPN's Legends of Pocket Billiards series, that was on air in the early 80's, making Mosconi close to 70, and retired from competition for 20 years or so.

Lou Figueroa
Hahaha.
And yet he spoke like he knew.

The article says “ drugs and booze destroyed ..............Greenleaf and Mosconi “

What, I know Greenleaf liked to nip but Mosconi ???

Yeah, there are some factual errors in that "article." There's that and also the yips has nothing to do with drug and alcohol abuse.

Somehow I got my math messed up. Yeah, the decline in a pro player's game from age 60 to 70 I'm sure would be dramatic, particularly with the health issues Mosconi had after he retired from competition. The exception to that is of course, Ray Martin - still going strong at 82!

You're right on that.
What I was experiencing was a lapse in fundamental cognizance, or something to that effect. What I would call now, the true yips.

It was nerves, it was seeing it happen one time, then it's all I thought about, then my mind wanted to duplicate it to see what the problem was, then my body followed that signal from my brain.

I must've shot 15-25 shots that way in a race to 7. My buddy was in shock too, he's always seen my hitch, but he told me this was something else. And I agree.

The yips........ geez.... get me a cure for this asap! I feel like I'm about to break a plateau in my skill level, and now this??

you got the yeps! idk how to spell that. its happens to golf players. look up yeps in golf some guy spitting trying to put the ball :)

good luck and go see a shrink

If you're pausing on purpose,.. take a break and come back, hopefully your mind has
forgotten the movement. Someone mentioned Buddy.. I like Buddy a lot, but watching that pause
in his stroke did my head in!

And if you're not doing it on purpose, it could be:

THE YIPS

The worst thing a golfer can get when he's down on an 8 foot putt for the cheese..

I think it was Greg Norman who yipped a short putt for a major, ended up losing the tournament. It's all between your ears.

Hmmm, id seriously considering paying money if someone could put a definite stop between my back stroke and forward stroke.

Being as your so close to me, come on up and I'll pass it on to ya:smile:
I'm tired of it.

Thanks for all the responses folks, I'll consider taking a short break and coming back, as I haven't played much in a while anyway.

"It's all between the ears" I like that. :D

LOL thanks i wish it was that easy ;)

couldnthinkof01...This statement shows your lack of understanding about what the 3 pauses in everyone's stroke (at least good players), are all about. Everyone pauses on the backswing (and almost all at the CB before the backswing)...it's impossible not to. It's just a matter of how long, or short it is, and how smooth you change direction. The better players pause on purpose, and have a smooth transition to the forward accelerated stroke.

Too many instructors teaching the pause

Beware of the pause

owll...You've had the opportunity several times. Take a lesson from me in J'Ville, and I guarantee I can help you with this problem...among others. If I don't show you how to fix it...no charge for the lesson.

Just a little joke.

Out of all the players who have taken lessons in the games that use a pause
there is only one Charles.

Sorry for those who couldn’t see through that.

Need to step up my smiley face game

It's not games that use a pause. The three pauses are part of what creates a beautiful, fluid stroke. BTW, whether someone uses a pendulum stroke or not, the pauses are still there. Good players understand them, and use them to their advantage.
