All these new black shafts got me to thinking...

Has anyone played around with staining a shaft with India Ink?

I build an extension from ash that I stained jet black... worked great.

See this video for a demo on using the ink;

I have a few old shafts... I think I'm going to try it out with one to see, but was curious of others results?

How are you going to keep the ink from coming out on your hands? I assume you are not going to use a finish.

One question: WHY???????????????????

Bob... I don't think the ink would come out... I've used it before and it sinks in very deep. Might get dirty hands the first time, but probably not after that.

Why? Just because I like trying things out. Would be a shaft that is being replaced because it is old/split/been repaired... but still plays good.

Go for it! Nothing to lose but time and money:)

I burned spirals around my shaft one time years ago. Everyone said I was crazy, but I liked it. ha ha. I think I wrapped string around it, and then burned around the string. I forget its been 20 years.

Why? So folks would think "Revo"? LOL! Good gag, if nothing else...

Kind of reminds me of wayyy back in time, during the "cruising" era...think "American Grafitti" scene. A buddy with a perfectly stock and well worn flathead V-8 would pull out the choke lever as we'd idle through the drive-in. Wow..listen to the lumpy full race cam!

One question: WHY???????????????????

That was also my question, but a lot of people do things for looks or just to play with to see how it turns out.

I see $2,000 Toyotas with Mercedes emblems and and $10,000 worth of wheel and stereo hardware in the thing, this is a lot less useless and cheaper.

One question: WHY???????????????????
If people would play with black shafts that were made of maple it would make us cuemakers able to use a lot of maple that we normally would not use because of mineral specs and stuff that is a little ugly on a snow white shaft.
That is the WHY I can think of right off the top of my head.

A friend of mine had a shaft that he painted with automotive black paint. It
came out great and was slick as glass. I don't ink will work well. You won't be able to
keep it from coming off on you.

I have a shaft that was repaired in the past. A small chuck got knocked out of it, and the owner glued it down and finished over the whole thing with epoxy (I think). The shaft isn't anything special, but after going over it with cue-papers this shaft has stayed incredibly slick and clean with little need of any maintainance. I've tried laquered shafts, and they get horribly sticky, but this shaft never does. I wish I could ask the owner what he used, but he passed away many years ago.

I hope the cue is just a production cue because if it isn't one now, it will look like one when you are done

Just remember...hallucinogens are temporary and most ideas are not good.

Try again next time.

great idea people will think you have a 500 dollar shaft when you really dont,, cool.

then of course someone will steal your cue and then you will have nothing.
