If you can make it up to the SBE for the Wednesday warm-up I would advise it.

It will give you a chance to get used to the tables and environment before the start of your tourney.

I will be missing playing in the event this year, because I have some financial obligations to deal with, that has put the kibosh on my disposable income. I may be up there on Thursday, with some cues and cases that I will try to sell.

Always been a big table player. But, now in preparation for VF. It's a given that every table is different and no break strategy will work on every table. Is there a consensus among "players" on the best strategy to use on 7 ft Diamond Smart Table? May break from anywhere behind the line and no safe breaking. Thanks for your help!!

No rule book. Played in a tournament in Vegas where it was announced that if anybody wanted to use their own rack template (instead of using the provided Diamond table rack) it would be allowed, but only if your opponent is permitted use of the rack also if he/she requests to use it. I believe the same thing was announced last year at the SBE.

Well you’re not all wrong, but clarification is needed. If I bring my own rack to use, YOU must ok for me to use it first. If you’re ok with it first, then I should allow you to use it. Nothing is written that I am required to allow you use anything other than a bridge head. Not chalk, not racks, nothing but a bridge head. Now it’s proper sportsmanship that if you permit me to use a template rack, I should permit you to use it.

I thought it was weird. And I didn't use the template. But I did ensure my racks were perfect, and I used the same break my opponent was using - dead wing ball every time.

Hell, there's been a time or two I thought about selling my cues and buying a nice rack with fancy inlays and leather carrying case, seeing how I've had nights where the rack gets more use than my cue! I imagine walking in with my fancy rack strung over my shoulder, gently placing it down on the smooth blue simonis of a Diamond 9ft, and saying, "Who wants action?"

I like the air of superiority surrounding your thoughts. Just because the places you play are all Diamonds does not mean every place out there has Diamonds, nor premium balls. Specially when owners say “yea those are the ‘super pros’” but you can see the box that say premium.

Did you expect to discover a magic bullet to a successful break? There isn't one. success is built through the culmination of many factors. Not scratching is probably one of the most important...

I guess you missed where I thanked the first few people who responded. My bad for not thanking everybody. But why criticize me and yet say nothing about the guy who responds with a wise ass comment and then follows it up with a crude insulting comment. People post on here to hopefully get some helpful advise, not to be abused and made fun of. I get it. The internet is a cesspool. Anyone who posts anything risks the wrath of people who want to be cute and/or mean. I just don't understand what pleasure they get from it. I'm 67 years old and probably too old to be engaging with people on the www. But hey, I'm retired. What else am I going to do.

Oh the places don't all have Diamonds and quality balls. But we deal with it best we can. For me there's nothing worse than a Valley barbox with shag felt and old balls with no luster, except maybe a Dynamo table with a heavy rock cb. I do like the small Valley tables with fast cloth and shiny balls though, but that's a rare find. I think I've had my ass handed to me on every table in every condition, because there's always somebody out there that plays lights out regardless of the table or balls being used.

I'm entered in the Wed Warmup, The Open, and the Seniors---Super Seniors was sold out.. Looking forward to it. Haven't been there since 09. Allen runs a great tournament. Thanks for the response.

Your response was neither intelligent or appropriate. It was a wise ass comment which I have come to expect from people on here, who have nothing better to do. If you can't read my original post and ascertain the type of strategic advice I was requesting, then you should not respond at all. Several people have posted very helpful advise which I am thankful for. Too bad you couldn't have posted some hints for not scratching on the break instead of trying to be cute.

On a side note, I used to play a ring game in my late teens/early 20s with the same 3 guys a few times a week for a couple of years. It was me, my buddy Keith who was my age, and 2 older guys, Duke and Jerry.

Keith always seemed to be racking, no matter who followed him. Duke and Jerry used to tell him the rack should have his name on it.

Well, Jerry showed up one week with a nicely wrapped present for Keith, ribbon, bow and all.

He opened it up, and it was a cheap wooden rack with Keiths name burned into the wood on all 3 sides.

Keith was not happy, but the rest of us were rolling. :thumbup:
