The nicest compliment I ever got on pool

I was playing in a four handed game called Chicago/1 &5 and I was in dead stroke.
One guy says "You aren't safe under the table"

Playing straight pool again in dead stroke and my opponent says "you know this is a two player game"

I was about 16 playing an adult 9 ball and a real good player that was a regular comes in and is watching a few games and says "You cant beat this kid".
Yeah he knocked my game but it felt real good to have a top player say that.
And the guy I was playing stiffed me for $12.00,LOL.
Never did get paid.
 
There isn't one for me but a bunch of little ones. I only play on the weekends with my wife. I don't own a cue. I am in bed by 9pm at the latest.

I often get the "What league do you play in?", "I've seen you in here a lot lately, you have a great stroke. Would your wife mind if we played a few games?".

For some reason I get challenged a lot. It's a great ego boost for a guy that plays twice a week half drunk :)
 
Mizerak happened to be sweating a match I had with Jeanette Lee in the late 1990's. I hit a really nice shot and Mizerak said to me "That shot will got the money every time!" I still can't believe he said it to me.
 
I was playing some $5 8-ball in a non-air-conditioned dive-bar in south Texas a couple years ago with a pretty good local player. After about 4 hours of give and take in 100+ heat we called it quits with me a few games ahead. He paid me off, bought me a beer and said, "You sure don't sweat much for a fat guy."
 
Not a compliment,but something i,ll never forget. Charlie brinson(one of the funniest road players i ever met) saw me playing a guy one night in south carolina. The guy was a high roller and just wanted to play and offered me a game. I told him not tonight. Charlie called me to the the side and said" damn jason you gotta play him some with that game" i said charlie,i don,t have any money. He said" hell,i,ll take half that air barrel" lol. I will never forget it! Charlie and Martha,quite a pair!

The occasional "nice shot" is about it.
But, at a tournament last year a guy safed me on the 9.
I called and kicked the 9 in and then cross banked the 10 to win the match! (High point for me lol)
..
A top local guy in the crowd told me after he almost bet the guy next to him I wouldn't make the 9.
Felt good. Never even met him before.
And...........I finally didn't go 2 and out in that tourney!!!!!:thumbup:
 
Years ago, I was in the middle of a 86-ball run in a straight pool tournament when I overheard an onlooker say " he's not that good - he is only making easy shots..." I took it as a compliment.
 
I was playing in a small tournament about a hour and half from where I live, I was matched up with a youngster who I hadn't seen before. After shooting pretty well I was up 2-0, I think it was a race to 3, he asked me where I was from, I told him, a very small town about 90 miles from there. He then asked me if that is where the pro's come from... I got a chuckle out of it.
 
I was playing a tournament and drew James Baraks. It was a race to 7 barbox nineball. He broke and ran out the first four. Broke played safe gets ball and hand wins that game and runs out the next two. Afterwards he said to me “good game, I was watching you warm up and look like a good player”. Haha I’ll take it.
 
Learning to be serious about my game, I was playing one of the best players in town, a spot of 3 games on a run to 6. I was doing well and close to winning, when my buddy pointed out..."he can play defense pretty good, no?" At that time, I was good to run 2, maybe 3 balls.....he answered my buddy...."yes, he can. He can't run worth a S, but he can play safe". Not exactly a positive, positive compliment, but always remembered this when I got to play him.
