Earl imploding in the World Pool Masrers

Was he always like this or has his increasingly bad attitude gotten worse with age? You watch old Earl videos, and while he might beat himself up for a bad play, he's well behaved. Seems like he changed for the much worse after 2000 or thereabouts.

Just about all mental illnesses worsen with age-Howard Hughes was a movie making mogul dating some of the hottest chicks in Hollywood at 35. AT 55/60 he wouldn't leave his room for any reason and reportedly had 3 inch fingernails.

I vehemently disagree.

Just because Shane makes a decent living, he is in the minority, extreme minority.
It is not possible to earn a living in American pool. Pro players are banned or must provide a ridiculous handicap in American regional events.
You must either win, place, or show to break even due to the expenses of travel, hotels, food, et cetera. The payouts of most pool events are the same in USA as they were in the 1960s, yet the cost of living has gone up at least five or six times more. In the '60s, a gallon of gas cost 30 cents, as an example.
It has nothing to do with players wasting their earnings. Pool players are always stuck in their income because you cannot come in first, second, and third place in every single event you go to. Even when you win, you're still stuck big time.

Wrong.
Pool players are in exactly the situations they are in because of choices they themselves have made. You and I are in the same boat...YOU've made bad choices and I'VE made choices. Nobody promised us a darn thing in this world.
Most pool players use too much dope, drink too much, talk too much, gamble too much, neglect their health, neglect their teeth and appearances, and live a life that has dire consequences further on up the road. Choices they made.
Then they like to do pity parties and whine about "nobody wuvs me".
*BARF*.

Kind of like unidentified trolls and banned members posting under new aliases using chopper photos as profile pics, as if they've ever even been near a chopper in their life.

Yeah, I do know what you mean. *BARF*

Anyone who is saying that Earl blew up during that interview is either looking to bash Earl, Or they are extremely jealous of his ability.

Klenti Kaci was taking it all in good humor.

I have seen Earl acting bad. Most of the time it is brought on by people in audience egging it on.

Earl over the years he has played at such a high level, deserves respect from the pool world. IMHO

Exactly, Kaci is not upset in the least. Not for a second. he just beat Earl, multiple World Champion and the bad boy of pool, and then got a rant afterwards. I'd say, welcome Kaci, you've made it :)

I was a lobbyist back in the mid 90's, testifying on a Work Comp fraud bill in Michigan. Well, the hearing was packed... with union guys. Every union rep, from every union was in the audience. Had to be 400 folks, standing room only. . You sign in before hand, and you check off if you are there for written or verbal testimony. Well, I flew in from Chicago, i'm going to speak.

I get called first. What? I never get called first. There were at least 2 dozen insurance lobbyists there. So, I went up, got grilled by a state senator from Detroit area. No matter how hard he came at me, you could NOT get defensive, you could not take issue, you just repeat the facts, and take your hits.

Well, that's great, but I had 400 folks booing me... yeah, how many folks go to work and get boo'd ?? So, after 20 minutes, I have to walk down the aisle right past all 400. they are jeering and hissing me on my way out.

I get out to the hallway, and there are the 2 dozen insurance lobbyists. I know a few of them, as I was only in this job for 6 months at the time. I said, that was rough. They said, no worries, you did good. I said, when are you guys going up? They said, we're not, did you see that mob out there?

Well, how come nobody stopped me? Well, you're the "new" guy, and you had to get your feet wet. They usually go smooth, but you need to know what the hard ones are like. So, welcome to the club, and they took me out to lunch, we had a great time, drank some beer and made a lot of friends that day.

I was initiated and loved it. Oh, at the time not so much, but a few minutes later I felt like a million bucks. Kaci stood there with a big smile on his face when Earl was ranting. I only wish my smile was that big when I was getting boo'd :) lol

PS: That state senator was charged 2 years later for sex with an underage girl :) LOL The bill didn't pass, but did about 3 years later in another form.

Some people with schizophrenia recover later on in life if they manage to live that long. John Nash was the most famous example of that

You want an example, go find the famous match with Landon Shuffett from 2012. Here's a post that indicates where some of the swearing in that match can be found:

Yes and not a link you your own post, a link to whatever evidence you have. Not a go search for it answer which to me is just trash talk.

Even in his match last week in the World Pool Masters, the commentators apologized in case any of Earl's swearing was audible on the stream.

From what I've seen of the world of pool over the last year+ researching it is that there really aren't many active icons of the game. Earl is one, but the rest are all old stories of glory days past. They love him. And let's face it, they don't have anything better to talk about. heck they could barely remember the sponsors.

To the Trash Talkers.
Personally I find the constant trash talking to be the biggest penis envy saga I have ever heard. Yes Earl is way better then you will EVER be for reasons you will most likely never understand. But you all know that, don't you.

BTW, I'm a hockey fan, you know that game where if you piss us off we punch you in the face until you fall on the ice and if your sitting in the stands your part of the game and hecklers would be best off to watch out for pucks flying at their head. Just saying...

Finally, I haven't seen anything to justify all this crying or for that matter anything to justify a demand for a behavior. Well except a bunch of trolls whining. Anybody have that link for proper pool etiquette from anywhere I would care about?

Hey, bud, it's not on me because you chose to be a troll (whatever that is) and ride a bike. It was YOUR choice.
What you do with any of your new aliases around this place is none of my business.
I'm just a nobody making a few opinions here.
(By the way, that Mustang of mine wasn't a "chopper"...it was just an oversized motorscooter that looked like a little motorcycle with 15HP. Better than the Cushman Eagle) You might have enjoyed one.
:thumbup2:

Whatever you say, dude!

With the rolls Kaci got that set I kinda understand Earl's frustration. Pool can be a brutal game.

Nothing pisses me off more then a good player getting rolls throughout the match. Once in a while is fine but all match makes me act like Earl. Ask my teammates

from 45:00 onwards but probably earlier in the video as well

Thank you. I hope you understand if I don't "Listen" to the whole hour and 15 minute sneak video that was made while the man was in a private place namely a pool hall with others were playing around him and not with children visible.

So I'm going with OMG he swore in a pool hall. How could he be so rude in such a hallowed place. He should be banned from public eye and be cast into the dungeon for the rest of his natural life. Please note the sarcasm.

BTW, I think it's a little concerning that someone would listen to the whole thing just to catch the swear words.

Most of what Earl said was legit. Maybe it wasn't appropriate for a post-game interview, but nonetheless, it was legit.

A little griping mixed in, but whatever.

Pool is a dumpster fire. Just bad all around. What are we left with? Matchroom? Sad indeed.

Earl plays in front of a bunch of drunken hooligans and hecklers. The most credentialed champion of the modern era. Treated like dirt. Hence the comments and comparisons he makes to golf, tennis and other individual sports. He calls out the garbage for what it is, and scolds them telling them pool is in trouble and no one cares. Just a circus.

He wasn't shitting on Kaci. He was shitting on all the commentators who generate hype by attributing greatness to players who haven't earned it yet. That sort of thing triggers Earl, even though that's not their intent.

I'm sure Kaci will have a great career. But right now, his resume is nothing compared to Earl's. Simple as that. It remains to be seen if Kaci will ever match Earl's records.

Shane still hasn't done it...that's crazy.

Most of you are too stupid to understand what Earl is saying. His delivery is terrible I agree, and he is also a man with a mental illness. But he does not have ILL INTENT.

He loves the game more than his life. And he respects some of his opponents, particularly the ones who have the guts to play like champions and who love and respect the game as much as he does.

Wow wow and just wow. What a melt down!!

Here's my .02:

Compared to a LEGEND.....well, Kaci is NOT a great player. He's a good player at best in a LEGEND'S mind.

It's hard for most to wrap their head around that simply because you/me/99% of the planet are not and NEVER will be a LEGEND at anything.

He could have said it a little nicer but, it was/is the truth.

Bottom line:

Lol......to a LEGEND like Earl, Efren, Willie..... Kaci is just another player.

To someone like yourself.....well, he may be a GREAT player.

One day, I truly believe that Kaci has the potential to be a future GOAT. So, that says I like the kid....no doubt.

Do "I" think he is a GREAT player? Hell yes!!!!!! Then again, lol.... I'm not a LEGEND. If I were, I doubt I would feel the same way.

It's freezing in here.
Don't tell me it's the same for everyone...I'm 38 years older than this guy!
Instant classic

Earl said all that after Kaci scoffed at the idea of Earl being one of his heros. The interviewer looking to set something off. Earl ran the interviewer over and dropped the Mike.

Earl sez “It’s not just me acting up...the whole world’s acting up.”
....I gotta admit, the interviewer was smirking too much for my liking....
...and Earl is right, he’ll out talk him all day.

I’m not always happy with how Earl acts, but he is the best interviewee they get.

The game needs an Earl....I wish he wasn’t getting old.

I would LOVE to hear Earl as a commentator. Especially in 9 ball events.

Earl understands things most can't even start to think about.....sure, he's out there most of the time but, if a person knows enough about the game they can read between the lines in Earl's rants and learn all kinds of stuff....

Earl Strickland, in his prime, was ahead of his time by far more than anyone else ever has been in pool.

Like you said, he's getting old. Then again, everyone does but, not everyone is Earl.

As far as I'm concerned, pool will ALWAYS need Earl.
