REVO Black Marks on rails. Wonder why?

Once again, I seem to be in the minority of the complainers here. I've been playing with Revo shafts for 4 years now...daily. I have NEVER had any of these so-called black marks. I've cleaned my shafts with the Revo cleaning cloths perhaps as many as 10x in 4 years...each time with almost no residue, which is always just dirt, not black marks as described in this thread.

This is the first I’ve heard of this and I haven’t had any of those issues. You would think that people would get black marks on thier hands during play also.

People still complaining about price but you have people lining up to buy something 3 plus years after to buy it so it must be right. I haven’t heard anyone complaint about Mezz who is charging more then predator and has pre orders lined up lol

As I've said real competition with strong opponents is the best thing and sobering-up which helps to see the reality...

I think one has to have their own table where they play. I understand you do not? You do not answer your PM's?

The black marks wipe off easily with Woolite. No one needs to worry about it. If you play at the pool room, you'll probably not even notice the marks.

I've been watching John Schmidt, Mr. 400, trying to break Willie Mosconi's run for the last 2 weeks. He's played 6 hours per day, and today is day 13.
He's uses a Revo and shoots a ton of shots across the rail like the OP describes. He's the only person that shoots on that table.
He's doing this challenge at Bull Shooters in Phoenix and the stream is on Bull Shooters FB.
I wonder if anyone can find out if his shaft is leaving marks on that table. You can't tell from the stream but someone there in person may can take some good pics of the rails.

I don’t doubt the OP at all. Plenty of others have said similar things.

Now I wonder if black “dust” is leaving the shaft, is the shaft actually getting smaller over time?

One of the advantages touted of the CF shafts is that they don’t wear.

If particles from the shaft are leaving, it must by definition be getting smaller. Whether or not that is measurable by common measuring tools such as micrometers is another matter.

I just got a Cuetec Cynergy and my fingers where I bridge the cue have black smudges on them. I cleaned once so far with the included wipes. The wipe was very black. I will try the cleaning method mentioned above and see if that corrects the issue. Otherwise this sucks! I don't have any black on my table but I don't cue on the rail often either.

All the cues/shafts I bought new only needed chalking to be able to play with, didn't have to work on them at all. I've bought a few used shafts before that needed tips, mainly because I wanted milkduds or one of my old Chandivert Champions on it. Of course I only use maple shafts.

Scott, they are black marks. Period! I am glad you never experienced the same issues. However, don't discredit others that have not had your same experience. I'm not anti Revo. I wasn't upset about the black marks on my cloth. But there is no mistaking that they are there and where they came from.

You're quite sure nobody snuck in at night while you sleepin' and made those marks just to be messin' with yo noggin' right?

Hi all, the root cause of this problem is due to the REVO not receiving proper cleaning. To effectively clean the REVO and prevent any type of residue from spreading, the shaft must be cleaned with 70-99% isopropyl alcohol on a wipe, paper towel or clean cloth and then air dried.
This process must be repeated until the shaft leaves no residue on the wipe, paper towel or cloth.
Once this process is performed correctly, there will be no issues of residue spreading to other surfaces like the rail or your shirt.

Additionally, please consider the angle of chalk application, because particles will trickle down the shaft and act as an abrasive on the shaft if applied incorrectly. The solution there, is just simply painting your chalk on the tip with the shaft at an angle. This will greatly reduce the need to clean the shaft repeatedly.

Any thoughts on why some people have had problems and some not, just not good enough of an initial cleaning?

Maybe the early ones weren't getting properly cleaned at the factory and the recent ones are? For the price, it would seem that it shouldn't need that sort of cleaning out of the box.

Today, went down to pool room and put in 3 hrs with new Cuetec carbon fiber shaft. My bridge hand got very black where my shaft glides through closed and open bridge.

Wrote it off as new shaft, carbon black rubbing off. Have not read all stuff written inside fancy box shaft came in. Does have some sort of shaft cleaner pads included.

Also, at first I miscued a lot. Tip is curved more than dime. Is the tips on this shaft extra hard ?

Also I love the feedback and feel of the hit with this shaft.

Just saw that shaft has Tiger Sniper tip.

Just got a brand new Cuetec 15K with Kamui Black medium tip upgrade yesterday afternoon and have shot with it for about 45 minutes so far. Am happy with the hit/feedback and like it better than my friend's Revo.

I always use a black glove so I wouldn't have seen that sort of color transfer. Since I pretty much never lay the shaft on the rail I wouldn't have seen what the OP is seeing either.

It does come with 10 alcohol cleaning wipes and specific instructions on how to clean it but does not say that this needs to be done prior to use.

After reading this thread I did briefly wipe it hard with a white cloth and did not see any color transfer so I'll do some additional testing and report back.

I read this thread while waiting on a cynergy so I made sure to wipe it straight away with one of the wipes. Nothing really showed up on it at all, but during play I get black marks on my hand pretty quickly. It doesn’t bother me much and I love the shaft. Good feel, sounds good and now I can run out ALL THE TIME!!!?...scratch that last part but I’m going to try a more dedicated wipe down to see if it helps. I don’t like foreign substances entering my bod without my consent so I guess it does bother me some.

We have a few players in our room that use Revo shafts, and come to think of it, I've noticed some black marks showing up on some of the tops of the rail cloths.

Before I played with it yesterday I used some generic Walmart isopropyl alcohol (91%) on a blue microfiber towel (don't have a white one) and got some grey smudging on the first pass. Didn't get any from the second pass so the jury is still out. Practiced with it for about 45 minutes and will try the cleaning procedure again to see what I get.

[Edit/update] I did the alcohol cleaning again this morning with a white cloth and got more grey color transfer. However, I cannot get any color transfer to occur on this shaft if I just use the white rag without alcohol.
