Gold Crown 5 still not right!

So, since I suspect the slate beginning to sag now. Could that be easily fixed? Since it was never supported from the beginning?

You’ll be fine after it’s re-done. This is a blind learning experience. Most techs are hackers or simply lousy. We learn fast. Sorry you/we have to go through this.

I’ll contact John Burns to see availability. I would most likely as if Johnson can cover the whole cost. Only since it’s a big inconvenience. Maybe the 3rd times the charm.

The GC5 is a great table (maybe the best GC) when set up correctly. Sounds like the bolts were never tightened properly during the original set up and worked their way loose over time. Not a hard problem to fix. I'm waiting for RKC to offer his input.

Just another fine example of why the rail bolts need to be tightened to a specific torque, then rechecked periodically. But, in the debate thread about specifically tightening rail bolts to a torque value, there were those that wanted to argue that if the manufacturer don't mention it needing to be done, then it don't matter😂🤣....yeah, right!!!

It is logical to you and us that they should cover the cost to make it work the way it should...but don't set yourself up for disappointment.

The seller/ installer is under no obligation to pay a third party that you bring in.

John is very fair and very good. Worth every penny, imo.

Dammit. What the hell do you know about pool tables?!?!

Wow, I’m honored. The king himself...

Don't be suprised if the dealer you bought your table through tells you that if anyone else works on it, and you ask them to pay the bill...."it'll void the warranty" so no they won't pay for outside service.

I texted John Burns this morning but haven’t heard anything back. I would like to get it done right.

10-4, they just texted me telling me they’re waiting for the Regional manager to reply back to them. So standing by...

Some pix, finally figured how to post pix.

See, the bolt support not even touching the slate.

Great looking table. In boating terms it sounds like you bought a SeaVee from a Bayliner dealer and they had no idea to set it up. But it’s still a SeaVee. Once you get the right guy to set it up and maintain it it will last a lifetime. In my opinion nothing plays better. Especially for one pocket.

Have them give you your money back and get a better table. Rub their noses in it by having the owner/manager of the local store or regional sales director come out to look at it.

^^^^^This^^^^^
Is the right move.

In hind sight you could have negotiated out the costs of install and hire someone who knows what their doing. The box stores normally haven't a clue.

I do appreciate everyone’s time I’m reading and giving advice. I will keep everyone posted to if and when they decide to come fix it. Hopefully sooner than later...

Different strokes, i guess.....the Anniversary looked good as a commercial or home table..
...all the Gold Crown models, to me, look extremely commercial.

The old Brunswicks look good in a home....

Which looks more like piece of furniture....a Diamond...

..or a Gold Crown?

To me , there is no contest.....Diamonds are forever

The old Brunswicks were made by real master cabinet makers. Now they're made on production lines. That's not always bad but? .......... This isn't likely the problem here. ... Just saying.

IMO T-Rails are the best design although there's setup considerations with them too.
Having choices, I chose a Verhoeven T-Rail.

I'd tell the store owner my concerns in a nice way. To me, initial set up on a GC or any table, must be done right the first time. Like the foundation to your home. The wait time for a good table mechanic, is time well spent. Where I live now, to get any major repair done to my home, I will interview 3-4 contractors, more if needed to find not only the person who can do it, but I want to meet this person before I make my decision. I could of set my GCI up by now, instead I'm waiting 3 more months for the ''right guy''. Like your car mechanic, you don't want a rookie. Once I do pick the right contractor, I normally find out it's gonna be months before I get the job done, but having it done correctly the first time is my biggest concern. I'd put to the owner this way. Ask em if he came into your auto repair shop and you fixed his problem, but a week or two later he broke down and came back in for the same repair, how he would handle that? Now if it happened again, I'd lay into them, with a velvet foghorn, if that doesn't get a rise, I'd contact the BBB. If I paid by credit card for the table I might try to work that angle. First set up I feel is thee most important concern for a new table install. Remember good mechanics are ALWAYS busy.

I hear you loud and clear there and totally agree. Hopefully this will be the last time. I believe in taking pride of your work. Which this is a good example of what not to do. I will continue to keep emailing and texting them daily u til they can resolve this. BBB would be the last resort.

Thanks,

i have a gold crown 5 and i think it is the best playing table ever, bar none

i admit i prefer bigger pockets but mine plays perfect, banks,no roll

and i am trading for an old centennial so i have no ax to grind

any table might have a little problem settling in,it can be frustrating
but my thought is you need to get someone good to level it up don't give up too soon

Oh, I totally agree with. I’ve played on GC all my life. Played Diamonds too at the local pool hall. I still prefer the GC. Definitely not giving up, just want it done right. Still waiting to hear back from John Burns.
