Laughing about the general opinion of "new posters" playing abilities

Can someone explain to me how you play nineball? Then, may I have the last four and the break?

It's a shame you feel that way. Hang around awhile and things may change. I find this one of the more plesant places to be as people are more than polite, they actually try to help. Some have shorter fuses than others but that is life.
People speak their mind on here brother. They tend to go for hot sauced rather than sugar coated at times. They don't mean to upset anyone for the most part.Congrats on the SL7 8 ball APA and SL10 BCA. Still need a point in the 9 ball APA.

How to play 9 ball.

No problem crawfish. Here it is in a nut shell:

1) you may make any ball in order, however, you must hang the 9 for your opponent and give them a chance before you can make the 9.
2) although your opponent may have a nice, what he calls a pool cue, you MUST use either end of any snow shovel you find.
3) you must give minimum 10-1 odds on the money.

Do we have a game? :)

Shawn,

You will quickly find out that there are lots of newbies on this forum. I am one as well. I have truly enjoyed my start here and with the exception of a few people who just lurk to stir the pot there are tons of not only knowledgeable but really great people on this forum. I have some advice from newbie to newbie.

1) Use IMHO as much as possible. Opinions are allowed and rarely scorned if voiced politely.
2) Do not get involved in any of the threads involving woofing between certain people here...give it an hour you will figure who they are.
3) Do not attack anyone. Period. If you need to say something to someone that is attacking, send a PM.
4) Give out rep points when you feel they are deserved. Create your personna one member at a time.
5) Understand no matter how talented you are there are many, many more players here much more talented than you or I.

I look forward to reading and sometimes engaging the threads on this site. I am proud of the rep points I have acquired in what I feel is a short time. I wish you the best in your beginning with the best billiards forums site around.

PS. I play Predator. PS. See you at the Canadians?
Canadians - probably not. A lot of strong players, and I'd love to go, but the timing won't work for me. My wife is a teacher, and my son starts JK this year, so I don't see "road trip" in the near future. You'll probably see a bunch of the guys I know there - Jason Williams, Al Smart, Jeff White, DJ McGinley, Mike Roberts. If you go, I hope you play well. I think it will be a strong field this year, probably the best in years.

Although I recognize the names the only guy that you listed that I am friends with is Whitey. The competition will be awesome. Best I will have seen to date. Looking forward to it.

Anytime you are in Ottawa let me know.

PS: Jason Williams? Young guy? Won the juniors a while back?

I usually assume if someone is posting here, they are a pretty good player. I am usually surprised to hear someone is a "C" player and posting here, but I like it and respect it. In fact, some of the players who rate themselves low have a surprising amount of knowledge about the game.

I admire anyone who has the guts to share their knowledge in such a knowledgeable crowd. I never look at the number of someone's posts, but at their content. Plus, the more you hang around, the more you know who is what speed. I do admit I give more weight to someone's opinion who I consider an expert player.

I am impressed with the number of good players on this board. When I say good players, I am not just talking about "A" players (there are a ton of "A" players here) but regional players who can play in events like the U.S. Open and compete at that level.

In my book, you are what you post. If you can't play a lick but you understand the game and contribute to the boards, well, I respect you. If you play like god but can't make much sense of it, you're not going to get too much attention from me.

I don't want to be rude, but I find your name, Predator Hater, kind of offensive since I love Predator shafts.

Chris

I'm just a C player. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

You're thinking of Jason Klatt. Jason Williams is probably one of the top 10snooker players in the country. Plays pretty mean 9 ball. Has one of the purest strokes I've ever seen.

I did some work for Whitey awhile back. Actually designed a j/b cue for him and Wych one day at Jim's house. 2 months later they showed me the TNT J/B from Falcon. And I thought we were just yacking over coffee!

I'm in Brockville about once a month or so. Maybe I'll make the road trip and hit some balls in the fall. Where's the hot spot in Ottawa?

Depends on what you want. If you want to find someone to play, Greenbank Broken Cue, but the tables are crap. Nice tables, there are few places.

Anywhere to play in Brockville?

I know Jason Klatt. It wasn't him. Pretty sure it was Jason Williams I played. Is he from the east coast?

Jason's in his early 30s, so I don't think it's him! The east coast kid I knew was named Ashley something. He did well at juniors a few years back. I think he's back in NB now - didn't do too well out here.

I don't know about 20 but Klatt is young. Under 30. I played Jason Williams before. He plays well. Too bad we only had time for 2 sets before the bar closed.

Klatt, I think, is 21 or 22. The 30 year old is Jason Williams (usually called Willy for short). Sorry for the confusion - too many Jasons.

Who won? If Jason plays "well", then I'm screwed if you and I play. Jason runs centuries in snooker. When he's on, he's a machine.

We broke even. Like I said we only played two sets. I didn't know who he was so we just played $100 sets race to 9. Final scores were 9-7, 9-7. He plays well. Not as strong, IMO, as say Dany Hewitt or Francis Crevier. We were playing 9 ball. I haven't played snooker in years. I used to be able to play snooker pretty well. I have run only one century. I played for between 2 and 3 years. Fun game. I would regularly run 80's and 90's. At the room I played at, though, we mostly played 6 reds...gambling was faster. I ran several 74's but could never hit the perfect 75! Damn.

I would play him again for sure though. Nice guy. Great kick game.

I forgot all about this thread, fun to read the old stuff but so many people long gone.

Now that I'm carbon fiber guy, Shawn - you should change your name back to Predator Hater, that works. LOL. I eventually came to like Tiger shafts better, then synthetic.

That red Becue you have would be hard to top by any maker for actually being a utensil for playing pool. Not a bad "looker", either. :)

These old threads are fun.

I'm reading the first page or so of this thread and everybody is calling this guy a newbie. I look and see he has over 3500 posts. Newbie? What the hell? Then eventually I get around to looking at the post dates. D'OH!

Some people don't have TV.

This is the History Channel, don't you know? :)
