WWYD - Getting on 2 ball

Okay... So here are my results. My final answer? Surprising new option, going into the two.

I basically cannot get to that side rail without hitting the two... maybe I'm a three cushion pretender at heart, or maybe it's because the ball has to be struck so hard to keep that spin off the third rail... Somebody might have mentioned that earlier.

Edit- now I've gone back and looked at the picture and will admit I shot it with only the 3 balls on the table and I did it about 30 times.

Was hitting the 2 from going topside or bottom of the 9...? Wouldn't have thought you could do that bottom side. ...and hitting the 2 was a common outcome for me while attempting to keep active spin off the second rail, (topside).

Seems like I have another convert to the bottom side path :thumbup:

Like I said...as a wanna 3c player,...lol. it was 2 or 3 rails into the 2b.

Don't count me in the combo club just yet though. I don't like it and would still likely go around the table.

combos are a great choice for players that have dead rails when they practice

dead yes 100% dead maybe one or two spots dont get worn down but generally its there to make sure nothing falls off the table

dead space dont touch it

I am trying to say pool players using very old equipment will impact their style of play against competition from a different table.
 
You just need to play the shot exactly how you did, but with lots of left spin. It’s actually fairly routine if you do it that way. Think of hitting the middle diamond on the left short rail.

I'd go between the 6 & 9. Also you're gonna have to get fairly straight on the 2 to get back down for the 3 with all the traffic in the middle of the table.

I actually "played" for angle, and punch the CB to the opposite rail after the 2 to get on the 3.

I think I may still play short side of the 2 as the original post inquired. The initial shape from the 1 is honestly pretty easy, and if I don't like the position on the 2 to reach the 3, then the safety is brain dead easy. The safety also allows me to place the 2 up table along with the 3 which then makes the out even simplier.

Sure the combo is there but... meh. Lower precentage than a direct shot, plus if you end up not comfortable on the 2 ball shape for that combo, the safety is harder.

Safety has been mentioned in numerous posts but the OP is playing the ghost, no safeties allowed.

Unless you're playing on a slow dead table it is fairly routine. If you have trouble getting there you're just not spinning the ball enough.
As I noted in my 1st post on this thread it's helpful to place the CB where it is in Bob Jewetts diagram.
If you put it there and hit it exactly the way you hit it in the 1st shot in the video you'll be successful.
 
ok, I was about to offer 100 to anyone that can produce a video of getting pretty straight on the 2 ball going around the 9. Until I finally figured it out. After trying about 15 min with no luck, I picked up the CB and tried snapping it with my fingers down the table to put max spin and see what happens. That was the clue.

To get that max spin on the CB, you have to actually put the CB on the other side of the 1 (further from the end rail than the 1). This allows you to stroke the shot way harder, and get minimal linear movement of the CB, but maximum spin on the CB. This is the way to hit it. I tried the other methods suggested, such as putting the CB under the 1 a bit, and they simply do not work. I don't recall if anyone suggested this method of placing the CB, I may have missed it.

I'll put the video up in a few min, cutting it now. I was so excited to finally get it.

This shows the combo option, and the option to go between the 8 and 9. I put all my attempts, but sped it slightly 1.5x so its only 2 min long.

The combo was tricky to make, and also tricky to get position afterwards. But I think I got a technique the last few shots.

Going between the 8 and 9 was by far the best option for me. Very easy to get fairly straight on the 2.
 
Very simple, play the one try to make it full, draw back and take the 2 - 7 combo, since the 2 ball is kinda frozen you need to shoot it into the rail; the 7 ball lays perfect for this, it is close to the pocket and a little bit out, I’d bet a decent player would make this 8 out of 10 times if he position himself close to the 2

Considering the other options of getting below the 2, then I’d say my shot is 10x times better chance.

I don’t know if someone answered like me, I didn’t read all posts, but ya I think any pro would do what I said
