how are ya'll doing in league ?

Lost in 8-ball again last night...then it dawned on me. I'm 7 out of 10 this session, and my three losses were to SL7's. I'm ok with this session after all...

What's your SL...?

Throughout the two sessions of CPA (APA) I managed to stomach. If I had even a contested win I took it as a loss. I was the apex predator in that league so the expectation was written in stone. I'm one of those extremely internalized competitive types so although I'm not a dick about it, if someone gave me a run for my money they were added to my shit list as a reminder for the next time....lol

I got a new guy like that on my team. He is just over 650 FR, I think the next closest to him is 568. The only rack he has lost this session was from a fluke early 8 ball that got kicked in.

No Masters league around here, so he just plays with us bangers on Monday nights to work on things and practice for his weekend tourneys.
I am close to being moved up to a SL 6, as I have only lost 4 matches in the last three sessions, and one of my other team members asked me the other night.
"Why do you always take your timeout for EVERY rack? You've never needed that much help before?!"

I smiled and let him know that every timeout with this new SL 7 is almost like a mini lesson. Strategy, shot selection, pattern recognition, all in real time from a much better player than myself. Shoot, I ain't too proud to get tips whenever, where ever.

I'm an SL5. So it's a 5-3 race with a SL7. Those guys are much better than I, but I manage to hang in there and make them work for it. I should have won one of the them, I was a bonehead and screwed it up. You can't do that with the better players, or you will pay for it. The other two matches I had my chances too, so I could have gotten them if I kept it together. None of the three matches did I get shut out, so that's a small moral victory, for the team.

I'll play those guys any time, I love it. Make you better, playing the better players.

Yes, I get down on myself when I don't win, or more specifically when I play poorly. If my opponent is on fire and there isn't much I can do about it, just tip your cap and move on. I was far more angry at my 9-ball match last week against another SL5, where I started well, and then only made 1 ball in the last 4 racks....that set me off pretty good. SL7's, they don't bother me :)

ya.... My CPA team was very weak. Company team that was a mix of 2/3 a single low end 4, and then me as the 7. At the start I did my best to advise the other guys as best as I could, but the skill / knowledge gap was so large that I found my "words of wisdom" weren't very helpful.

I'd be like, "ya punch that in there, with a the right amount of side and let it spin off 3 rails so you can break up that cluster"....lol. Totally a short coming on my part. They wanted to know how to play a pattern, and I should have been telling them how to hold their cue so they could hit cleanly.

I'm decent at explaining the basics to newbs. Just not in the short time allowance you get in a CPA/APA time out....lol

All bars in Washington State have been shut down the entire pandemic so we started a garage league. 2 person teams with one High rated player and one low rated player. Three games of 8 ball and three games of 9 ball with the top players going at it and same games for the low rated players. Add up your wins for the session with prizes going to top 3 teams, top 3 highs and top three lows with ALL league dues put into the pot.

It was such an experience hosting and visiting someone's house every other week. Instead of the team of 5 vs the other 5 players it was super social with lots of laughs and making two new friends every week. I managed to win top singles with $196 prize. We are going to start another one in January.
Great idea! How many teams did yall end up with,? How did yall handle handicaps

I thought I was gonna have a repeat of my failure from the previous week, in last nights match. Started out strong, had a decent lead, then my opponent starts coming back, and I start missing shots that I shouldn't. Fortunately, I managed to right the ship enough to squeek out a win. I'd hate for last week to become a pattern...

Way to pull it off dub. We had playoffs for my friday team last night. I faced another 6 in 9 ball and lost 46-40. Didnt play great at all. Reflecting back on it i guess i put too much pressure on myself because we were losing bad . we lost 50-30 in 4 matches.

8 ball was entirely the opposite. After losing 9 ball I won 8 ball 4-0 in a 4-3 race. It could have wnded in r matches but we were playing the last 2 8 ball matches at the same time after 9 ball was over in order to get out early.

Bith matches ended at about the same time and my team mate won hers 3-1 for a team score of 10 - 4.

8 ball tri cups oughta be real interesting . i have all 3 teams in it. Just one team in 9 ball tri cups.

This is what I would want for a Senior League. Small enough teams so everyone plays. And everyone close enough to the same age that you're socializing with people that are like-minded. Sounds like fun, Luxury!

And BTW.....still the next to the best avatar on AZB.

That's a whole other level of pressure we put on ourselves, when the team is behind in a 9-ball match...thinking we have to make up the ground that we're behind. That never ends well for me, thinking I need to get to a 15-5 or better.

Good luck in your Tri-Cups! We just had our 2019 states a couple weeks ago (it was originally supposed to be this past June, but Covid...), and I was the donkey, losing 15-5 to start the second round, putting the rest of the team in that same scenario.

Our Gold Coast League started back up last week. Last night went exceptionally well. Our team won 14-1 and for once I wasn't the 'one'. Hope this will be a trend, but either way, great night with some great people.

mon 8

they had new cloth on our tables at bogies,
8fters big pockets fast cloth, the break sent every rack wide open, way too easy

had 3 brns in practice, and another when i was on the hill of my match, made 4 stripes and 1 solid off the break

our team is bad lol, but you dont get to choose i guess
one of the two games he won on me i actually scratched in the cb after the 8

my captains all WOAAAAA!
i said say it louder, a few people in moscow didnt hear that i think
hooting hollering when i make shots, fist bumping,

LEMME CONCENTRATE already damn it! lol

I thought I heard something the other night...now I know what it was.
My captain loves to give you the look when you miss. Along with gestures and maybe a "What was That?!" comment, but has every excuse why it wasn't his fault when he misses or loses. He's a good guy its just funny.

my team is good people, just bad, non competitive players lol

Sunday night was the begining of our new session. Due to new restrictions from the county we went to staggered starting times to limit the number of people in the pool hall at any given time. Also were limited to just 5 players on each team so you had to give advance notice to any extra players to stay home that day. The first half of the division started at 1:00 and the second half ...which my team was in started at 5:30. It seemed to work out great as all the 1:00 teams were leaving as i arrived at 5:15.

So i face another 5 in 8 ball and win 4-0. I then face the same guy in 9 ball where he is a 5 and i am a 6. It resulted in a whole different outcome than our 8 ball match. I didnt bother to look at the points....just the score and i lost 17-3 . without looking it up i probably scored in the range of 25 points or so in a 46-38 race with me goimg to 46.

It seems to be a normal routine lately where i win most of my matches against higher levels and lose most of my matches againt lower levels. Let me rephrase that. I get my azz kicked by lower levels. Just like most losses my opponent slopped an ungodly amount of balls in and left me locked up when he missed. Not exagerating when i say i never had a clean shot when i went to the table.

I had to kick every time i went to the table. A few times i managed to pocket a ball and had a decent shot but there were a couple times i had hooked myself after a successful kick. Just my luck lol. Several times when making a legal kick i left him good ...again...just my luck lol.

Well it seems like even after adhering to the new stipulations the county decides to shut down our pool halls due to a spike in the number of covid cases recently.

So i guess i will not be posting any match results for a while but do look forward to reading the posts from guys who may still be playing.

man i gave my opponent 2 of his 3 wins by scratching on the 8, made the 8 both times, i dont remember the 1st but the second, was a fluke kiss off one of his balls, he had 3 blocking the pocket and behind the cue ball, i was like well let er rip

im in a rut seemingly now where i run 6 or 7 balls often and cant finish
im blaming last night on the clay balls, last game i get a bad roll and end up 1/16 of an inch away from my last ball had to do about 85 degree pique, the ball rolled to half an inch away from the edge of the slate middle of the pocket, cueball ending straight on the 8
he clears his 3 and im done

clay balls did me in, thats my story and im sticking to it

JMHO, but in my years (15) of APA 9-ball experience, it seems to me the handicaps tilt slightly in the favor of the lower skill-level players.

For instance, I'm a SL7 in 9-ball. I literally dread it when the opposing team puts up a SL4 or SL5 against me. Spotting the SL5 seventeen balls and considering the fact that many 5's are capable of running a table out at any given moment, it makes me a bit concerned.

Then there's the SL4's. Spotting them twenty-four balls....ugh! I don't know how it is in your league area, but in mine, it seems like the majority of players that are under-rated are SL4's. Hard to beat them.....must keep errors to a bare minimum.

I'd rather play a SL8 or SL9 if I cannot get matched up with a SL7 like myself. Even if I get my a$$ handed to me, It's still very educational enough to where I may pick up on a shot or two for future reference.
