How much is the most you would pay to play in a Pool Tournment.

Not $1000 lol. I'd just be donating. Would be a fun experience I'm sure.

Hoping to go to Derby in the future. Only so much $$$ to go around!!!

Most tournaments I've ever been to. You'd be surprised or maybe you wouldn't, top professionals walking around looking for somebody to put them in.
I'm not surprised but it seemed people replying to the cowboy's question were always paying their own entry fee.

Funniest story I remember was Mike Janis banning Jack Hines from the Viking tour after Jack made the finals and then telling the guy who had him in the Calcutta he would dump if the guy didn't agree to split the pot. The guy agreed and then Jack grabbed both the first place money and all of the Calcutta money and ran out the door. Good news - he had plenty of money to buy "medicine". Bad news - his cash cow at the Viking tour came to a screeching halt.

Out west they have $1000 entry fee tourneys a couple/few times per year if you're 580 and below Fargo.
When you're over that, not so much...
I have a $500 entry coming up later in the year.

Mike Janis. Haven’t heard that name in a log time, not since my heyday🇺🇸

Before covid I qualified with a 579. Now, even though I haven’t played a single game I’m over at 583. This Fargo thing is rigged I tell ya! (Sarcasm everybody)

Has anybody ever offered to split their winnings in exchange for someone paying all or part of the entry fee?
I've had offers the other way. Meaning, those offering to help cover costs for a piece of a potential cash out.

I've seen what you're suggesting at nearly every tournament I've been too that wasn't sold out prior to the day.

Personally, the idea of someone else's money riding on my performance has never sat well with me. Maybe I should try it to see if it keeps my effort up as the day gets long.

Surprised nope,🤣 remind me of joke about difference between Professional Pool player and Extra Large Pizza?

Extra Large Pizza will feed family of 4.
It's not a problem for everyone. If you're Fargo rating is sub 600 you can play in a tournament every night! And BIG ones every weekend! Plenty of money to be made if you don't ply too strong.

Yep. It's ridiculous how 90% of the money to be won (big money anyway), is for those from 580-550 Fargo.
Only a fool would allow their rating to go above 580 out here. If they would spread it around a bit
we may get enough people to rise up to the 600-650 range and be able to fill one of those up.

I didn't say that to denigrate anyone. There was a host of players who showed up at tournaments knowing they could get put in. Often by fans that didn't even want a cut.

Those guys were really hand to mouth, a few bucks one day broke the next. They are often discuss on here these legends with reverence to their skills.

Truth is though except for their talents they lived pretty meager lives rarely having anything to show for it.

We all live different lives and somebody's got to be the responsible ones to keep things going. But who is to say that maybe the starving artist, musician, writer, and even the pool scuffler maybe when it's all said and done had it right.

and the rest were the suckers just slaving their lives away at jobs they hate for a retirement check that they may never live to collect.

Well I do not know if the Arizona Rating Number were merged into the Fargo System, or if those who had Old AZRating are SOL?

Know it’s been over 7 years since I played in Tournament.

There is a rough estimate conversion chart for AZ to Fargo but it's not used for big tournaments. Fargo uses a "robustness" number (games played) to validate the rating. Often times the TDs will require a minimum robustness in the system before a player is eligible to play in the tourney.
