Latest update from my local port contact .

International Ocean Freight

Container ship schedule reliability on both the east and west coasts has fallen to an all-time low
and is expected to continue to fall over the next few months with the peak-season increase in
demand and the recent natural disasters that caused major flooding events in China.
Continued congestion in the entire US port-related transportation chain is contributing to
delays affecting vessel schedules, marine terminals, trucking, and port container drayage, rail
services, and equipment availability. NVOCC’s, carriers, and retailers expecting to see supply-
chain congestion and high import volumes continue into the end of the year.
Along with the supply chain log jam, three additional surcharges have just been introduced on
top of the already sky-high ocean freight rates on the transpacific route (China to USA/Canada).
The Peak Season Surcharge (PSS), value-added surcharge (VAD), and congestion surcharge (CNS
or CGS).
Please feel free to contact us for more information regarding these changes.

U.S. Trucking Trends
An increase of imports in the lead-up to peak season along with suspended and/or reduced
capacity of intermodal rail services from Southern California to the Midwest may lead to
another surge in spot rates making the domestic intermodal option impractical.
Truckload rates have been lower in comparison with intermodal, and transloading freight into
trucks may help to bypass the worst of the congestion.

Everything is going up. Hard and for a loooong time. Short term inflation is like saying partially pregnant. It just don’t work like that. “Transitory” gentle way to break the bad news. The early inflation euphoria of “all my stuff is worth more” is soon replaced by the reality that what ever money you own just isn’t going to reach as far.

I don't food shop but my wife does.
She came back from I think it was Safeway and said a couple of their large frozen food freezers were empty and in the dry foods a lot of shelves were empty.
Not good.

I work for a large flooring company that services new home builders.
The owners office is close to mine and I heard him tell someone that a lot of material is on back order or very short supply and get used to it.

Yeah, costs haven't quit going up and won't. It's wild. Some material had a little dip and then right back up...like service cable or wire in general. Most clients have no clue that it's triple or quadruple material cost, makes job cost go waaaaay up.

This makes sense. Charge more for slower shipping with more damaged goods arriving at your home. We are remodeling a bath so far one marble countertop arrived broken. They shipped another but it took 7 weeks to get that sorted out. Then the new one had a broken marble backsplash. They are shipping that replacement out on Tuesday of this week supposedly. So that will take another 7 - 10 business days. One bath remodel will stretch into a two plus month project all due to poor shipping and handling combined with inefficient packaging. I can see why they want more money. Not that they deserve a penny of it but they have to make up the loss somehow!

You are using marble for your counter tops not granite?

I use anything I want on my counter tops... Thanks for asking...
I think most people don't use marble for that application because it is very porous and stains very easily and things like a little rust from an old screw can stain it from below. You can seal the top, it but that's a forever maintenance item as it does not last very long. But sure, do what ever pleases you. why not? I truly mean that.
I pesonaly would have expected most people to say something like, Yes, why not? Just saying. Hey it used to be a free country, remember that?

Inflation is going to get much worse. I was going to offer a cue that would fit a need in the wanted section, but I can't imagine that I could ever replace it for what I can sell it for today and I like it.
P.S. $114.14 to get gas today. about $75 or so under TRUMP.

There are no old screws below. The vanity is brand new and is made of actual plywood not particle board or MDF. No problem there. I plan on sealing it whenever it is needed. Thank you all for your concern. Good god!

Not concerned, and no offense intended. For the people unfamiliar, I felt expanding a bit might be interesting as to possible reasons such a comment might be made. Ya know just sharing some thoughts nothing more.

I appreciated your elaboration. Not sure how sand got kicked in his hoohaa but it evidently did.
How about sandstone? We are doing this soon and haven't decided what we'll be going with yet. We're selling this house in a year so it's not really for us, but rather to upgrade from the crap we have now.

Yep, that's why me and my best friend are starting a trucking company. We'll have trucks hauling automobiles though, not general freighting.

You can haul them from the factories to the storage lots where they sit waiting for the microchips or whatever last few parts are needed tobfinish them show up at the port.

My office is near a recently closed NBA venue and the lot is covered in cars on "lot hold"
