US Open 9-ball updates thread..

Another great play by Yapp after that Filler blowout performance. I would say the favorites to win it from here are Aloysius, FSR, Orcollo, Gorst. But we have seen so many superb performances followed by players being defeated/eliminated suddenly in next match. Case in point- De Luna, Kaci, Fortunski, SVB, Albin :D

and also gave filler that same treatment before in the tournament i believe. the kid seems very much in form.

before the last US open i had not heard of yapp, but apparently he has quite a following on social media. broadcasts his practice sessions maybe? pretty sure someone who knows social media said that
Was not impressed with his error prone play in World Cup of Pool some years ago but is a significantly better player now- has it all.

I say a foreigner wins the US Open this time . :-P

Why not just have a 60 second shot clock with no extensions, most of the players at this level are going to shoot within the time frame anyway.
Some things take a little longer. 60 seconds can go pretty quick between getting jump cues and annilizing shots during safety play, even changing your mind at times.

With a reasonable time frame scheduled for each match there is really no need for a time clock. In fact usually there is a lot of dead time between matches. They often end sooner the scheduled. This tournament is a good example with all the blowouts.

You should really only call an extension when you the beeps start going . But, Shane, can't there them I think.

I think Emily override Lehman after talking to Shane and Yapp. Good decision. Would be ridiculous if Lehman penalise Shane on such silly time technicality even if Shane did not call extension. If I am not mistaken , some Accustat events had automatic time extension?

The guy is awful. Has been for years, tournament after tournament. Can they get Ken or Nigel out to finish the match.
Always wants to be "On Stage". The best refs do their job and fade into the background. Look at the young gentleman (might be German) doing some of the matches. Super ref. In there. Checks if a ball is touching and floats back out. Always looking at what is needed and back into the background. Ditto with Ken or Nigel.

He also blew some calls last week. I'm sure Biado was not happy to see him again.

Yes, I also recall the auto-extension. which now makes more and more sense to have it that way.

Who cares if there's no extension!
Everybody watching does!

I cannot even imagine watching Bergman vs Fedor with a 1 minute shot clock.

7 safetys and 9 balls would be a 16 minute game GUARANTEED!

they would probably average 10 mins + per game.

UNWATCHABLE

Yeah some of the side table matches in the Vegas events that had no clock were brutal.

Any name will do. Even nicknames count like John Morra aka Mr Smooth :p
There’s got to be a better nickname for senor Morra. From what I remember he doesn’t like the name himself and it just doesn’t flow. Maybe if I knew him I could figure one out.

Whe
When Shane won the 2016 US Open, I said then, that there will never be another American player win it again, 5 years ago!!
There is probably more of them. Where would the new US players come from? Young people don't play the game in the US.

You are hard pressed to even find a pool room with 9 foot tables in most towns. Pool is just a pass time and of no real importance here. It's not a professional sport. Most players if they want to eat hold regular jobs. Even to the pro pool is a part time job.
