What cue would you buy (piloted stainless joint)?

I’m looking for something different from my current cue.
Budget is -$2K
Only requirement is piloted stainless joint.
What cue maker would you buy?
Been considering Scruggs but open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Scruggs
Block letter Joss
R Schon
-R-
Plain JW
Black
Jensen

I think all of these hail from the "stainless era" though a few them were known for ivory joints, big pins, flat faced, etc.

These are just my preferences. I'm sure you won't have a hard time finding a piloted steel joint custom cue.

Looking to buy new? Then I would go with Bob Dzuricky. I bought one of his cues here on AZ and his construction is as good as any active cue maker in that $2K range IMO. DZ cues. Most of what are considered the best in the traditional SS joint construction have passed through my hands - I would go with him today if I were going to have one made now.

Mike Pancerny makes a piloted stainless steel compression joint as good as anyone on the planet.

Buying new. Consider Bierbower or Morgan. Great hitting 5/16-14 SS joint.

There are a lot of cool cues in that price range. I have

a Bushka-inspired Prince-Davis fullsplice with linen ($1500),

one of the first Tim Scruggs cues he made, loaded with work (sold out of his garage right after he left Joss)($2100),

CAM cue with genuine Balabushka acrylic and Cortland linen ($1600), and several others.

Send a PM if interested

His youtube channel has tons of videos showing his cue making work for anybody potentially interested in DZ cues. Also recommended for anybody looking to learn a little bit about how cues are made that isn't already familiar with the processes.

How long is the wait for a DZ?
Well now, the rest of the research is up to you. DZ cues has a website and contact info for the cue maker. None of us here should be quoting a cue maker's wait times- you should contact Bob directly and discuss your cue desires and receive costs and build times directly from him.

Cue making is a profession and a craft that deserves as much respect as any other craft or profession; speculation on a someone's business situation is not the way to go- talk directly to the cue maker.

I've got several...a Gary Medlin GEM (lake Charles) Szam-clone, Joss J-11, Schon STL17 and an -R- full splice. The Joss was about $450 back in '88; the GEM was $1100, the Schon $1400 and the -R- $2000. I love them all, but the one I must have if the rent money is on the light is the Schon...it's an Evan Clark built model (1992), and the balance and hit is shockingly good. Everyone who tries it doesn't want to put it down. I know many love the R series Schons, but the S/ST/SL/STL series cues were really the nuts. You can get into a Schon pretty cheap compared to a full custom, and it will perform as well as anything else you'll buy. That's my opinion, since you asked. :)
