The kids got me one of those big ass TV's that automatically connects to Netflix and YouTube. I know, I'm the last guy on the planet with one of these 70" behemoths. So tonight I watched Shane play Tony some one hole from 2017 during the west coast swing. I think at California Billiards. In the top left corner it said "Fat Boy Approved."

My question is- what, exactly does it take to get Fat Boy Approved?? And will this get me a glass of rum anywhere?

Was it written on the screen, or part of the room?

Maybe Eric donated some money to Daniel for the stream. I know the $100.00 I gave Daniel did not get my name up there. WTF?

I’m glad you asked!

I’ve been giving that lots of thought. Somewhere along the way watching a stream maybe 4-5-6 years ago I said “Fatboy Approved” in a joking sense in the context of the stream. It kinda sounded cool to me(not because I’m Fatboy) but because it seemed like a new idea in pool. Like the JD Powers award or Michelin Star rating system for fine dining.

Pool needs something new I thought, so why not a stamp of approval? I’m not looking to make $ from it-that’s not the intent. And honestly what does my opinion count? Not much. But I been around a long time and I do have a bit of credibility. Of course there are people who hate me and everything I say or do is wrong. But I’ve never gave anyone a bum steer or double steer.

I thought about starting a thread about this idea since I jumped back after a 7 year AZB vacation. But I just didn’t, and here we are.

I think it would be kinda cool to put the “Fatboy Approved” seal of approval on some good stuff in pool. Not everyone or everything but good things. And again not for compensation to me. If anything if it could make $ I’d give it 100% to some forms of kids pool or youth programs. Never for my own gain or benefit what so ever. It would be for the future of pool and for fun only.

I’m open to suggestions, support(not money), ideas, is this a viable idea? I’d make it legit and be certain that the other people in pool accept it and have it be credible. Not a clown show or mockery. A real thing.

I love pool my whole life, know more people than I can count in the pool world. Some famous, infamous, wanted by the law, good, bad and even more people know me. If we can make use of that-I’m all for it. I want what’s best for pool and have a good time doing it.

Danial is a good friend. When he was streaming and I’d win sweat bets POV won. He and Geraldine (my moms name too) really worked hard on those streams. Great people.

Don’t think so. They covered the 3C in Tucson this year or a 3C event in LA. West coast swing should happen in 2022 I hope. Not much going on in LA pool that I know of. But I’m not really up to date 100%. I sure hope POV keeps it up. Pool is scarce in la.
 
Be nice of Daniel or Geraldine to check in here once in awhile. He streamed a few months ago local in SoCal. Hope they are well. Great folks. FatBoy Approved genius.

Think the last West Coast Swing was in 2018? Miss going up to California Billiards and seeing the top pros.

Covid has decimated the pool scene in the South Bay Area. The only 2 rooms left before the Covid are now gone. This area is ripe for a well run pool hall, but I doubt it will happen with the cost of real estate.

Maybe Chris from California Billiards will see an opportunity to open California Billiards South Bay? A man can dream.

One thing I’d like to add to this idea, it’s just a thought. Nothing is set in stone.

The “Fatboy Approved” seal doesn’t have to be just my opinion. That’s narrow and a bit selfish. I’m open to having other people who are known and respected involved in this as well. like a Board of sorts where if 3/5 people agree then “something” can get the seal of approval. Maybe that’s too much work. I don’t know. who are the 5 people? IDK, just a thought

Of course we all argue like hell on here and in pool in general, so nobody’s ever gonna be 100% happy the HOF, rules, everything seems to be a argument. But I do value other peoples opinions-sometimes more than my own, I’m capable of learning and changing my mind.

At the end of the day, recognition and appreciation to good things in pool is important and isn’t really being done. My idea is to do something positive. Sure I’ll piss off lots of people along the way. I’m ok with that as long as the majority of people in pool aren’t pissed it’s a win for pool. For the players(not really pro’s so much they don’t need me nobody needs me), vendors, streamers, manufactures(I get it that big manufacturers don’t need me), distributors, tourneys, rooms, leagues etc. Anything pool, if a seal of approval adds credibility and is beneficial then cool. It’s NOT about money or attention on me-it’s about the recipient of the Seal of Approval.

It’s not about me, it’s about pool, and positive feedback on good things in pool like POV for example or who ever is out there doing their best with pools best interests in mind.

Please any ideas I’m all ears. If this isn’t a good idea, please tell me why-I can handle it. Again this is not about me or for me. It’s just a idea.

I have a idea.

I have a plane to catch now. So later on today tmr. I’ll write up a idea in a proposal format and lost it here/ will be good writing practice for me. And we’ll create the idea in plain sight, so everyone can see that it’s pure, honest and with everyone’s best interest in mind. It can come to life or die in public. There’s no “behind the curtain” anything going on.
Maybe it will be fun and work, maybe it’s dumb and dies.
