EARL STRICKLAND Returns to TEAM USA

Thank you for the solid answer.

Will the rate go up for the Mosconi Cup? My real question is this: is a strong appearance bonus an incentive for a guy like Earl? More to the point, at this stage of the game, what's in it for Earl?
Mcup pays what it pays. Idk the numbers this year.

After the Mcup The rates rooms offer are kinda what they have to work with and see who’s available for what dates. Johnny, Rodney, Nick, Earl all get around the same rate-it’s never really fixed. There’s no guideline. The fact Earl is playing the Mcup this year can’t hurt, but that doesn’t mean he gets more $. They don’t have agents and cut their deals with rooms they know the owner at.

For big $ challenge matches they get flights to Vegas & rooms for example and sometimes show up money if the PPV numbers are excepted to be strong. That again varies widely.

It’s a mom & pop biz at best with no unions, managers, agents. And the total rake isn’t enough to sustain a retired player just doing shows.

Mike Massey probably makes the most of all the exhibitions. He’s built up one heck of a reputation and does great shows and has a few BIG $$$ corporate shows he does every year.

It's an incredibly shortsighted strategy. They can't keep adding Earl forever to boost ratings. And you know what draws the best ratings? An actually competitive MC. And the best way to make that happen is to bolster Team USA's roster. There is enough talent in America to compete with and beat Europe in races to 5. But that young talent isn't getting a chance. Picking Corey last year was dumb and picking Earl this year was even worse.
Earl is a very big risk for JJ and SVB, but he could pay off. US needs to take some risks to win. From Matchroom's pov they need to create interest - no different than having Judd Trump play in the US Open where he made the tournament memorable. In Earl's case, people love to hate.

In reality, then, nobody is making any money. Even with a silly marketing plan like this one (adding Earl to the mix), how long will Matchroom keep bleeding money before they bail? Black pool balls? Mullets? Earl Strickland? Will LGBTQ Wet Tee Shirt contests be next?

For the chocolate lovers, Amanda Thorpe recently turned me on to this chocolate delight: Peppermint Mocha. I drink my coffee black, and this is delightful on its own with no cream.

I remember seeing MD at the Mosconi Cup one year, pouting in his corner. Team USA members came over to him to try to cheer him on, patting him on the back, and he shunned them. He just doesn't seem like a team player. He might be great to play in an exhibition match, one on one, where he doesn't have to be part of a team. I do realize he has a strong fan base in New England, but I definitely think it's a good thing he got out of pool and started to earn a living elsewhere. As most know, pool isn't a money maker. You must come in first, second, or third to break even in most events. One in, maybe, 100 can earn a living in pool. Shane is one of them.

One can earn money and make a living in the pool industry, but I think you have to have a modicum of popularity by a lot of people, not just one region of the USA. Allen Hopkins, Nick Varner, Mike Sigel, and Johnny Archer come to mind. They found a niche in the pool industry and do not have to compete to earn a living. Allen Hopkins is one exception. He loves, loves, loves to compete, but that's not how he makes ends meet. Allen genuinely still loves to shoot pool, like a kid in the candy store.

Try Starbucks Peppermint Mocha. You will be glad you did.

I predict they will go to Mosconi Cup XXX, and that's it. 2024 is the last one. Hope I'm wrong though.

Not enough money, never said no money.

Sorry for not being clearer

Just don’t give me some boring ass match like Earl vs Alcaide…I want to see him in the box against Filler. And I don’t want to see the predictable Earl/Shane tandem…give me Strickland/USA Young Gun together. Since he’s on the team, let’s see some effing fireworks.

It's better to be pissed off than pissed on.
There are a few instances where I would prefer the latter. If you're into that sort of thing...

Reminds me of a joke:
What's the difference between a Chick Pea and a Garbanzo Bean?

I wouldn't pay $20 to have a Garbanzo Bean on my chest. (Obviously only works when you say it, not type it)

I never let him go on tilt. I put a stop to it the minute he got out of line. He knew better when I was around. There were some tournament officials who looked the other way though.
I'm referring more so to a "cornerman" type of person- somebody who could somehow calm him down and keep him focused. There probably isn't such a person- perhaps he respects Shane enough for him to serve that role a bit.

Archer must not be rolling in the dough as he apparently refused to pay Oscar Dominguez after he lost to him

I think we all know there is no love lost between Earl and JJ. The biggest explosions may take place behind the scenes in the practice room when JJ is making out his line ups. I look for both Shane and Earl to play singles on day one and also play a doubles match together. After that it could get very murky on how Earl is used. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when JJ is announcing each day's line up to the team. Things could get ugly quick between JJ and Earl. This may not have been the most well thought out decision by Matchroom if this proves to be the case.

i can imagine a filler vs hatch 2017 scenario, times 10. that was on US soil, this is ingerland

Does not matter what Earl's record WAS or what his accomplishments WERE. We all know them. Bottom line is his inclusion in the 2021 Masoconi cup is a slap in the face to up-and-coming players (and there are many of them) and it's no way to build a team. Someone hit the nail on the head when they stated that Earl's inclusion is for entertainment of the European TV audience and demonstrate to them that there is at least one game where Europe can kick the USA butt. Hope his apologists were able to see his play against Grabe in the current International Open, it was a sorry sight to see. Beating no name players means nothing.
He still has the 8th highest Fargo in the USA, what I consider a slap in the face is to put a 37 ranked fargo(tyler) a few years ago over everybody else.

If you hate Earl, just say you hate Earl, but don't make shit up and make yourself look stupid by trying to say all these other low ranked players are better than him.

If you don't believe in Fargo, we can get a whole bunch of bets down.

Tyler's resume the year he was selected (2019)

He earned his spot.

Were you involved in this? Do you know exact details of what happened? If not then quit bringing it up. If so tell us exactly what went down. I've hear a lot of scuttlebutt concerning both sides. Have no clue what ACTUALLY happened. Love to hear it.
No, but wasn't it Oscar himself who posted about this on Facebook?

LOL. What an idiotic post. I don't hate Earl, I know his accomplishments. Fargo means nothing if you know how it's calculated. Carry on cowboy!
