SVB to Kick Off High Run Attempts

Facebook's 3-second windows are why so many Facebook posts are just click-bait - looking for that 3 second engagement and don't care if you stay longer.

"Playing 14.1? See this secret the pro's don't want you to know!"
"Casinos in Vegas don't want you to know this trick".
"Hilarious video of XradarX playing the Ghost!"

I never understood running balls for free. It is work. I knew 2 players that ran over 300 balls and just stopped shooting. They both answered me the same funny enough when I asked them why they stopped. Then I ran 13 racks of 9 ball years ago and just stopped. I thought and they answered the same. Why?
It is a great thing happening here. For pool maybe. For the pros that deserve something for their abilities more so.
Thanks and good luck with your event,
Nick :)

if the racking system is a template not a real rack
shouldnt any "record" have an asterisk ?
I don’t understand this. I’ve had a few people question videos of my runs. I use a template rack when playing 14.1 because I’m sick of the triangle marking up my cloth, hands wearing the cloth from gripping and tightening balls etc. All cuesports indicate the balls are to be racked as tightly as possible. A template rack allows for this without killing my back spending 5 minutes bending over the table trying to get the balls to sit.

Additionally, the WPA rules account for the use of a template rack, adding that a triangle should still be marked on the table even when a template is used.

i dont play straight pool and did not know the WPA allows a template rack
but in 9 ball when using a template the wing ball is wired making running out much easier
in the "old" days when there were no templates the pros had to deal with less than perfect racks and still run balls
maybe a few more clusters to deal with
to me the template makes for a "cleaner" more consistent break which gives the shooter an advantage to run balls
ie easier to have a high run

I commentated on over dozen of these matches over several years. I looked on youtube for those matches, which were played on tables upstairs used for the regular tournament. I haven’t seen a triangle outline on those. I’ll assume I just couldn’t see the outline from the booth.

...
I marked the outline the first five years when I ran it. Bill and Dennis have both assured me that they marked the outline every year they ran it. Bill used a sharpie while I used a light tailor's chalk.

As I understand your proposal, both of the balls in the diagram as break balls would be left where they are. Is that correct?

It's highly likely that because the marking was so light, I just couldn't seet it.

On the diagrams, that's correct. My Brianna rack wouldn’t except either of these, but a ballmarker would allow both, very legit break balls.

There is no gain from the template to help the balls spread easier. It assures the balls are touching each other and that they can not be racked tilted to gain an advantage. When racking if a ball can not be racked because it would touching the break ball then the break ball will be spotted up table. 5 days so far and it hasn't happened at all.
The WPA santio s many events that use this type of template especially in Asian Countries. I e played in the All World Japan 9 ball Championship and they have use this type of template.

Thanks Nick we are trying to promote pool and stay positive. It's generally the players that ruin things for themselves that's why we are doing things differently than other events. It's been fun and lots more to come.

In 1 out of 75 runs, SVB broke 300.

Does that suggest that it would take SVB about 8x75 = 600 attempts to break 500?
...
In both SVB cases there is not really enough data to have good percentages. The "real" fraction for a run of 300 might be 2 in 75 or 1 in 150. For running 100, SVB was 16 of 75 which might have a real expectation of about +-7 from that in only 75 trials. That is, his long-term percentage of 100 could be 23 of 75 instead of 16 and he just got unlucky. Or maybe he is really 9 of 75 in the long term.

But to answer your question, if he is 1 in 75 to run 300, he would be averaging 98.6% per ball or would be missing about 1 in 70 shots.
He would be 1/1334 to run 500 or more from a single start. This does not mean he is even money or a certainty to get 500 in 1334 attempts, of course. Due to the way repeated low-probability events work, he would be even money to run 500 or more at least once in 924 tries. That would be
12 times as much effort as he has already put in.

Roughly, based on the small data set we have at this point.

A couple of the Pinoys have expressed interest. ...
Dennis Orcullo. At the last several DCCs he consistently had 200s. The last year he had 260 on a table that had 4 1/4-inch pockets. He was also ready to grind out runs day and night.

So far as I know, every other year at the DCC straight pool challenge all of the tables were 4 1/2. I measured many of them. The last year (2019) the two tables in the main room were 4 1/4 while the two in the room across the way were 4 1/2. Filler had his 285 on the "big" pockets. Here's what 4 1/4 looks like:

Has there ever been a pro 14.1 event on 4.25” pockets? I think that would be interesting to see.

gerryf -- thanks for the nice graphics showing SVB's runs. But I have to ask again about real short runs. As I pointed out earlier, the two runs immediately preceding the 308 were 2 and 4, and those weren't showing up in your stats. You explained why. But do your stats also skip others like that? If so, do you have an idea how many? Did the missing runs all end in the first rack? What was the actual total number of his attempts?

And would you be able to give us an explanation of how this software scan actually works?

Quick question.

If a ref or ball racker fumbled a ball while gathering them and the fumbled ball rolled into the break ball or cue ball, What would be the ruling?

I could see this happening(don't ask me how I know).

The referee puts the ball back as best he can. I believe there is a video of the ref gathering up the break ball when Earl was shooting and quickly putting it back. The ref didn't want to admit that he had touched the ball.

In these days of video everywhere the restoration is easier.

It is not about the players. Hello out there. It is about the PLAYING.
It is the game. The game in the player. And Bobby would be hard pressed to find anyone to replace him!
Nothing means crap. In the end someone will have the best of it. Everything else is bullshit.
Stay safe and keep it going!

Maybe I missed it because of the whole childish off topic drama in this thread, but what is going on today, tomorrow, next week and so on...
Shane has finished his first visit with a high run of 308?
What goes on today?
Ruslan is next starting when? For how many days?
Who is in line after Ruslan?

I still think, that this is an exciting experiment, but promotion wise, this turns more and more into a disaster....

That typically happens when annoying people are MCing an event. If Bobby just put up the dollars and told people to come and get them with a nominal attempt fee, they'd see the run soon enough.
