Poor Shane is Trapped !

No I understand. What happens on a forum like this is if you're reading a thread and you write a response to one particular poster, you find yourself subconsciously responding to other posters because you've got in your mind what you've already read which may not be relevant to the comment at hand.
Unless I've got something really personal or a financial interest in the outcome, I'm never going to live and die with the result of a sporting event. In no time at all pretty much everything becomes yesterday's news.
Way too deep

It’s a competition and we cheer hard for who we want to win. that’s how sporting events work. Maybe you haven’t seen any before. Lol. Svb should step down. either he doesn’t like being there or he’s just not good at the team situation. Either way he does not play like himself in it so let someone else play
Like who. Do you think that any American team is going to beat Shaw, Filler, David , Kaci and Albin? Worse yet Europe could send at least 10 more world class players (for example Gorst, Neils, the Poles who are getting better every day and several others) and still kill us. Swapping out team Europe NO problem. There is nobody to swap Shane out with that can stay on the same table as the Euros.

Yeah, that’s scary to think that Gorst, the 5th ranked player in the world, for some reason didn’t even make their team!

I find it quite possible to just enjoy watching without caring who wins. Army/Navy football game comes to mind. MosconI? Of course I root for the USA, but it's not the big deal to me that it is to some here...
Same here. I love the battle and seeing who is gonna step up and take the win.

I think if Shane wants to take a break for a year or more that fans will understand...but the team would be foolish to be the party who decides he's not in.

In the Mosconi Cup he's playing short races against opponents around as good as himself. In most rounds of most tournaments and often in money games he is playing long races against "lesser" opponents, a completely different thing. The comfort level and percentages chage drastically. Also he has to contend with being the team talisman and having teammates who are simply not good enough. A very difficult situation. I find it incredible that a pool population the size of USA cannot produce 5 better players than that. The OP says there is talent coming through, SVB would be in a different postuon alongside such talent.

Sad fact is there are very few world-class big table players in the US. Besides the five that just played there's less than ten that have any chance of beating a top euro talent. With more events(Open, Int'l,Derby, ProSeries, World 10ball, etc) and more prize $$ hopefully this will change but it will be a slow process.

Read what I wrote again.

Having an interest in who wins and loses doesn't mean you are emotionally invested. Which is what Hawaiian was implying.
There are people who get overly into games and sports, as though it impacts their daily lives.

I know people who do nothing but talk about their teams all day long and get upset when their teams lose.

WTF?

Does anyone know if any of the participants are given an appearance fee? Or if the MVP is awarded a cash prize?? Just curious if there is any other money besides the prize money for winning and losing...

30g's to winners, 15g's to losers. No clue about the mvp.

Of course, and I'm saying there are people that can root for a team without it impacting their daily lives.

There are far more harmful and unhealthy obsessions / addictions many of us have, so WTF are you saying?

This off topic but I think the MC should should expand include a team from Asia and a team from the Philippines make it a world event
Maybe Matchroom should consider changing the Mosconi Cup to Europe vs Asia (Philippines, Taiwan, ext.). It would be more competitive.

I definitely agree with your first few sentences. In my opinion, since his last US Open win, the competition has caught up and at least a few have surpassed him.

We could have said the same thing about switching out the Euros for Asia for the first decade of The Mosconi Cup.

Maybe Matchroom knows what they're doing? nah....oh wait, thats another thread

What does competitive have to do with anything? Matchroom got some Euroholes to spank the Yanks and have a bunch of drunks singing shanties nonstop. They got good tv ratings out of that. Now I'm sure a bonus would have been if Earl went ballistic and speared Albin but you can't ask for everything.

He will only get crucified by the Yahoos who actually think this is a real pool tournament instead of a carnival crap-shoot meant for entertainment…like WWE wrestling.

I enjoy playing and watching pool, but I don’t care who wins, one way or the other, unless I am playing and have money on the game.

People who get emotionally involved in sports that they are not participating in have mental issues.

It is a game.

It is entertainment.

Relax.

Watch the GAME!

DON’T fret who wins or loses.

If your team loses, drink a beer.

If they win, drink two beers.
Are you saying the result is fixed like in the wwe?
