Talked to you in a YouTube comment. My 9ft Gold Crown 2 has 4.25in pockets, 3.625in throat, and 1.5in shelf

The online calculator by Isaac says that makes it a 1.09

I forget the exact measurements of my old table, but it was around a 0.88 I believe, which would imply the new table is roughly 24% more difficult. That sounds about right, in terms of shot difficultly which this seems to measure. The more reactive cushions, better/faster cloth, etc make it more difficult, but those are more things you just need to adjust to overtime.

Good point. I should not have included the Russian Pyramid table in the first place. The TDF system is really appropriate only for pool tables. A Russian Pyramid table is truly "off the charts" of the TDF system. I've decided to remove it from the list.

My rails on my GC1 were done by Mark Gregory. I believe his bevels 12°. I think the closer you get to zero degrees, balls hit into the pocket facing may be more difficult to pocket. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Like many things, bevel angle can have an effect, but I suspect it is not as big as the other factors. I would think a larger bevel angle could make the pockets a little "tighter" since the facing could play softer allowing a ball to compress the facings more.

Is there a way to simply this? For example, have TDF for each model of table (obviously having different numbers for pocket size and table size).

But for example, all full size Gold Crown 2s are .... all 7ft Valleys are ....

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems shelf and angle size should be the same on all Gold Crowns, so its one way to simplify. Then people can just check Gold Crown 2 to see how difficult it might be (baring pocket size)

Agreed. It would be nice if we had a list of manufacturer factory-spec measurements and TDFs for all brands, models, and years. However, when people replace cushions and shims, or add shims, all three variables (mouth size, facing angle, and shelf depth) can change. The hole in the slate is in the same place; but as the facing angle is changed, the pocket points move in and out relative to the shelf (and the shelf depth relative to the point-to-point mouth line changes).

For example, if I replace the cushions on my Olhausen table and have them cut with a smaller facing angle to make the pocket mouth smaller, the table would probably play easier (due to the smaller facing angle and smaller shelf depth), especially for shots with any pace. I should do this so people will stop saying how big my pockets look, and so I can more easily pocket balls requiring speed.

From what I have read. The downward facing angle will be adjusted based on shelf depth. "Deeper" the shelf, the more downward angle. The additional angle helps slow the ball as it enters the pocket, and helps direct the OB into the throat of the pocket.

So two pockets with otherwise identical dimensions will play differently if their downward angles vary.

So far I have only managed to stumble across numbers ranging from 15 degrees to 11. 15 being common on Diamond tables. 11 was used on a GC of some vintage with a rather short shelf after a rail reno.
