when playing 1 pocket and the cue ball ends up hanging in a pocket corner hooked, can the incoming player just tap ball against same corner rail trpping it or do they have to move it to new spot

If you can do so with the tip and not double-hit it you're good afaik. Can't tap with side of shaft/ferrule.

And in particular you are not allowed to jam the ball against the facing and hold it there to make sure it freezes.

The incoming player does not have to move the cue ball very far. 1/100 of an inch would be good.

Philly is full of cheaters, ha ha ha. Trapping it with an illegal push/double hit stroke is probably fine there. According to the latest rules on onepocket.org, and the DCC, trapping it with an illegal hit is -1 for the shooter, PLUS BIH for the opponent.

A tap on the cue ball like that will get you the inside view of the side pocket, from below rail level. Sometimes this can cause bruising to the face. Act stupid and a stupid prize will be awarded.

Well rule should be discussed before play starts. I know some people play if you make ball in your pocket on break it stays down an counts.

Others play you spot , but do keep shooting.

Where I play if you make a ball on the break it's a re rack and you break again.

I like threads like this. Ive been building a list of rules to go through before playing someone 1P for cashish. This is one to add.

I had my first 8 and out in a real match the other day. It was spectacular, the whole thing went according to plan. I had 3 or 4 balls open and opened the others with two perfect shots. I was happy as a clam lol.

Hey Optician… how ya doin

Tapping with the top of the shaft was done because the degenerate pool players didn't know how to read a rule book, so they passed down the illegal shot to other hacks that never read a rule book. Before you know it, they all think it's legal.
Yes that would be me. A degenerate

Have a good day

Fatboy.

Btw: where we gambled they don’t have rule books😂. Wasn’t the country club mister

At least you know who you are :ROFLMAO: I guess some people play Tennis, Golf, maybe even Chess without reading a rule book o_O

Well the thing is tennis has one set of rules, Golf is same.

Pool has so many groups like. BCA, BCAPL, ACS, and 5 / 7 more.

Each with a Rule Book.

Pool would be better off with one group over all Pool, armature, professional, league,😁

Closer to home and somewhat more surprising to me is that many of the top snooker players, including O'Sullivan, do not know the rules.

For chess, I'm guessing anyone who is rated 1600 or over knows all the rules of the game including the 50-move rule and the insufficient material rule. More tenuous is their hold on the "regulations" which cover time control and other aspects not directly about moving the pieces. The regulations change but the rules do not.

I have never read a rule book in my life.

I play by the customary rules for what and where I’m playing. I don’t break rules, I’m not interested in reading, changing or enforcing rules. I’m a player not a rule junky.

Kindest regards,
Fatboy

Yep. The rules of the house are the rules. Get 'em straight before you tee it up. Some spots has a quirky rule every now and then but most places use same basic rules. I remember one time we stopped in an old room in bum-fk Kansas. They were playing golf with the pill bottle upside down in the middle of the table. If you knocked it over however many points came out that was how many hickeys(fouls) you got. They only used the 1-5 pills but still it could add up if you were playing for anything.
