JAYSON SHAW BREAKS 626!

It is the case. Babe was as honest a player as there is, and if he said he ran 768, then he ran 768. Not that it matters, but he told me this personally. I do like that these challenges are back; it gives straight pool some life. Best of luck to anyone who breaks 768.

All the best,
WW
What year did that happen? Max Eberle told me about it years ago as well. My 14.1 history is not my strong suit.

Thx
Fatboy 😀

Whether any of the outlets picks it up is unknowable. We are, at this point, a niche sport with an even nicher accomplishment. But, we'll see. Dealing with the media is a dual-edged sword.

Is there a press release made out yet? I’m so freaking excited over this, I called up my local radio station tonight and asked if they had received anything yet. They hadn’t heard anything. This was around 10 eastern Tues. the 18th of Jan. 2022. Get this cracking on the AP. The AP will get picked up by smaller stations. Or hell, take advantage of your built in network here on AZB; post a press release and have us all contact our local media outlets. We’ll notify all latent, active and aware publics. This is so freaking cool! 51 racks is INSANE!!!

OK, I am told review of the video of the run has been completed and it's official: 714.

As far as I'm concerned that's the certified new benchmark for the high run Period. We weren't there when Mosconi made his run we don't know how it was done.

I saw Mosconi play many times he would tap balls around with his stick improve lies and do all kinds of things in the course of an exhibition. If a trick shot didn't work he just made a joke out of it and knocked the ball in with his hand. I saw Mizerak and others do the same things.

As far as what happened in a pool room some where hardly witnessed I don't care. They are all just rumors. For at least the time being, there is a new undisputed KING of the high run.

@ Poolmanis,
chalk had not occurred to me. Wouldn't have even considered it if not for the recent Taom hype. Have to get a cube or slug just to have one. lol...
I think filler uses Predator Chalk. If/when he comes to play I think we will see what happens! ;)

Taom has been a game changer in the world of snooker, and it’s been a game changer in my house because I don’t have to clean my table anywhere near as much 😂

Also, EWWWWW, Predator chalk?? That stuff is awful. When I tried it, it was like Papa Smurf had exploded in my pocket, leaving his blue guts and innards all over everything I touched.

I've tried Predator chalk. Didn't seem very special. The guy who turned me on says it helps scuff your tip - WTF? That reminded me of Silver Cup which is very abrasive and will wear out a buffalo tip in a month. So far I always go back to master chalk which I've been able to accumulate for free! lol...

Can't tell if your post is serious or not, but did you really call your local radio station? :ROFLMAO:

Hell yeah, I did. This is a newsworthy achievement. It may be niche, but a record like this should get some airtime. Listen to an hour of sports-talk radio and you’ll hear the announcer repeat the same thing 6 times 3 different ways. I would think they would welcome new content.

You're missing the point. All of us draw a line in the sand somewhere when it comes to how a table is setup. For these high run challenges a loose table is perfectly acceptable and 5 inch corner pockets certainly fits the bill and doesn't cross the line. However, as frustrating as RKC can be, if you can manage to chew on the meat and spit out the bones with the guy, you can get some usable information as he is a very knowledgeable table mechanic. He's the one that raised the issue of this being a gaffed table and he provided his insight as to why that is. In response to this both Lou and Bobby have been coy about it.

John Schmidt certainly sought after easy tables for his attempts but I never heard of him actually gaffing up a table in the process.

I do think this is important going forward as it's one thing to find a factory made easy table, but it seems to me -- to be an entirely different thing to completely change pocket configurations to make tables play easier.

My hope is the table falls in the normal easy range and this gets put to bed, but as of now the promoters have chosen not to do that.

Getting dimmer by the minute.

As I have said before, Bobby has too much respect for the game to purposely gaffe a table for his event.

The table had been in storage and needed new rails. They were replaced by one of the best table mechanics in that area.

End of story.

It's been difficult to get what I need -- the lads were not only exhausted after the all nighter but in a celebratory mood and not given to answering my requests.

I'm hoping for better today .

faw, it rhymes with Shaw! Nice

i dont disagree with stu often but this time. and he is right this stuff is great for pool.

and its nobody's business who won or lost in a private game. or how much or what went on.

but when you declare something is a worlds record you have to be able to substantiate it and all the questions that the public is entitled to ask and most to know. the video will reveal that it happened but still the public needs to know and i suppose at some point they will tell, all the circumstances of the winnners trials to succeed in the world record.

most were rooting for the record to be broken by a present day shooter. my self included. it would be great to see 1000 soon.
This is certainly a well-presented post, Maha, and it is largely well-reasoned, but you're bringing us back to the question that arose time and time again after John Schmidt set the record. That question is "Who must certify the run to put it in the record books?" We already know the answer, as we went through this process in 2019 --- it's the BCA (Billiard Congress of America), the American arm of the WPA. This makes perfect sense as the run occurred in America.

How much due diligence should be performed on the part of the BCA in certification of the run? No doubt, there's room for opinion here, but we already know from the 2019 world record run that a video review of the run from beginning to end will be enough to satisfy the BCA,

In short, it is my contention that there is nothing that the public "needs to know", only things the public "would like to know" and feels entitled to know about the run. Like Mosconi's run, this run was watched live by some pool fans from beginning to end and a similar attestation could be produced if required. The chance to witness the run live in its entirety was provided to pool enthusiasts worldwide. Those who missed it will get their chance to watch it at some indeterminate time in the future.

There is no role that the pool public plays or ever has played in the certification of pool's records. Yes, in the pre-video age, an affidavit that the run was seen was enough, but substantiation that the run occurred is a relatively easy matter in the video age.

Guess we still disagree.

Maybe I missed your post where you said this previously. So I'll take your word for it, but understand you and BC have earned the privilege of having this highly scrutinized.

I've been impressed with your handling of us bangers, and make no mistake -- Shaw has relegated us all to that status. I look forward to seeing how this plays out in the PR realm. Best of luck and hopefully this gets some attention.

Maybe what you say about "certification" is true, but certainly us pool enthusiasts can at least encourage full transparency. They have pursued a World Record, and now Mr Shaw holds one. When you couple that with their disdain for the previous record holder, reasonable questions have been raised about the table. Lou's word is good enough for me at this point but asking questions and ensuring everything is above board seems more than reasonable.

Even going forward, knowing the exact pocket specs will be worthwhile as most certainly others will be having a go at this record and not all of them will be shooting on this table.

What an exciting time for pool. So many great things happening at the professional and amateur levels. It's a great time to be alive.

When Bobby sent me a full set of pocket photos I looked at them, saw no problem, and actually thought he was sending them to me for release into the wild (that would be here : -)

But he said no, that it was his preference they not be released. I argued to the contrary but as I've said many, many times: it's his event, his dough, his call. And I'm good with it.
