Shaw 714 video?

It was a lot of sponsorship on the screen for days since they started doing this thing. Not to mention the promotion for the club that I believe just announced that they're going to double their square footage. There's other value in this other than this trying to get somebody to give you a few bucks for a DVD.

There's money to be made, there's talk about the chalk he used, I'm curious about the tip on his stick. He pocketed a zillion balls and I don't think there was even one miscue I could be wrong but I don't think there was. It'd be enough to make me to switch to his tip and chalk st least give it a try.

It's probably not that far fetched to say that a mainstream advertiser would be interested. Suppose he's wearing a particular type of sneaker that he set his world record. On his feet dozens of hours over 6 days. It would make a pretty interesting commercial. Pool tables work good in commercials because their eye catching. There's a little outside of the box thinking to do here.

lol, Bobby owns a number of successful businesses -- he knows how to make a buck ;-)

everybody's a millionaire on here though. but with "tradition" i was referring to pool players in general, among them mr 626. having low expectations in that regard is my default setting.

i have much appreciated the legends of pocket billiards project, have said as much to wrldpro, would myself pay to watch the shaw run (the parts i haven't already seen), but remain doubtful that the potential amount of ppv customers is high enough that it exceeds adsense revenue from a youtube vid that reaches people and countries where there's no chance they'd even buy ppv for such a niche pool discipline.

Nothing is really “free”. You are spending your time and attention even if you didn’t pay a dollar. People have so many options for entertainment and so much to do that to ask them to pay twice (money, time&attention) you will get far less viewers than if they didn’t have to come off any money.

I don’t know a thing about what YouTube ad revenue is but you’d get orders of magnitude more viewers there than if you could only buy a physical or digital copy.

The people willing to pay for a produced version will almost always still buy it even if the raw video is online. Cuz you get the commentary and whatever other perks.

The modern world is in a strange transitional place right now. There is almost no comparison between the world our 55-70+ yo people came up in and the current iteration of ‘civilization’.

That’s not meant as a “get with the times” kinda thing just an observation. It depends what the ultimate goal of this (or any) endeavor is. If it’s to expose as many people as possible to (insert thing here) then it should be all over YouTube, tiktok? and whatever other strange things people are using.

Mass exposure can net some ad revenue and also set off the butterfly effect to who knows what end?

It’s also cool to keep things in their niche, low key, high quality, especially in this time of insanity and the dilution of all things.

I don’t know the best way, it’s a conundrum
exactly my thoughts. If i invest my time watching something and i get informed it is 100% free and after all it is not fully accessible, i am wasting my time.
I also think money made should made with good production + sponsors + ads. Selling video is not gonna fly.
Just Youtube video does not pay enough even with millions views. But if video could have millions views it probably would interest pool industry get some visibility on video etc..

And I don´t really myself care is it free or not. I did not watch that run and not gonna watch even it was free. Maybe i would check break shots and do some analysis but that´s all.

This was posted on the facebook site. So that's that. We will just have to wait.

We would like to take a moment to thank all of our viewers that tuned in over the last few months to witness some historic 14.1 high runs.
We also wanted to thank the players that participated in our event for putting on such an exciting display of talent, skill,
and determination. To SVB, Ruslan, Earl, and Jayson, we greatly appreciate your time with us at the academy and we know our viewers feel the same.
In regards to the video footage: we have a perfect unedited original high-definition recording that is secure and
ready for the BCA to validate and certify, this is our first objective.
Once that task is complete, we will look at the best options to showcase this world record breaking run to the world.
Our primary goal is to ensure this footage is showcased properly in a manner that will not only help the billiards industry grow in a positive way, but to also create interest to outside viewership. We also want to be sure Jayson is recognized and awarded for his great achievement as he should be.
With that said, we can assure our viewers the video footage will be available to the world, but please be patient as this process takes time. Thank you
Sincerely,
Bobby Chamberlain
Promoter of the Legends of Pocket Billiards

The video will be great. I'll watch the video as is but an added touch would be something Pat Fleming had done that he calls a player review. An opportunity to hear Shaw comment on the video as it plays out. I suspect that would get a lot more public attention.

On another thread, someone suggested that it was the plan all along. As soon as a run got close to 450 or so, the stream would turn off, and any run over 500 would be behind a paywall.

Patience grass hoppers...you go to a movie theater spend $50-100 to watch people pretending to be other people.

I have no problem paying a fee for 2.5 hours of entertainment. If there was a video of Mosconi's run I'm sure most of us would own it on vhs and digitally remastered dvd.

Even if they are not going to charge and just get sponsors that takes time. So chill out and be thankful there is a video.

Then why go through the effort to rebroadcast it via cell phone? To make sure there was no high quality version of it floating around?

Lol what movie theaters do you go to damn

The soundtrack should be the music he was listening to in real time. Just got to get the rights. I think that would add an extra artistic value. Shaw at least needs to share his Playlist and we can match it up like Pink Floyd to Wiz of Oz

Everyone should just hold on to their knickers. This is barley a couple of days old (not even that). Before anyone complains about seeing this, monetization, or any other tin foil topics. Let the stakeholder validate product (it is a product). Get this officially baptized and then they can decide what their next steps are. Previous record stood for 50 years. If they thought that this would happen this quickly then they might have been in a position to tell us all. Now they had the Holy F.... moment and need to figure some stuff out.

Remember nobody owes you anything. Not even the Super Bowl is free (just ask Duritos, Pizza Hut and Allstate).

Agreed but the previous record only lasted 31 months.

While large pockets & ‘trick’ racking systems do make these record attempts all rather unrealistic (not tournament/competition conditions), still, though making that many shots without a miss or scratch is indeed amazing by itself, what REALLY boggles the mind is the idea that hitting the pack hard enough to spread the balls for so many consecutive racks never once left the CB frozen/stuck behind an OB (?). Making a hundred straight passes at the craps table couldn’t be more dumbfounding.

I don't think I ever saw this thing advertised as "free", apart from the livestream.

The important thing will be that it is made available for a (reasonable) fee, so people can review it when they wish. Hopefully with as little delay as possible. With Filler chomping at the bit, that would probably be in Jaysons best interest as well;)

Worst outcome would be some sort of John Schmidt-esque travelling wild west show, that there would be no chance in hell for me to watch. Second worst would be an extreme price point where most people just don't think it's wort it. I'd probably buy it anyway, because I'm for all intents and purposes legally insane on this particular area of my life, but it would ruin it for others and the sport.

Actually, it would be even worse if the video for some reason just disappeared. After a while, that tends to make people angry. Personally, I don't think you could pay me to watch John Schmidts run now, the whole thing really soured me on him as a person and on the run itself. Imagine that, someone who's watched Mike Sigels various runs more than possibly any human alive, on shitty VHS tapes and later DVD's. Someone with a whole notebook full of diagrams and notes from those matches, even though they happened ages ago, and despite knowing what MS is like in person. And not stopping there, studying all the greatest 14.1 players that were recorded, up to the current day. Someone who watched pretty much all of Accu-Stats 14.1 catalogue at one time or other, who's read every book available on the subject of 14.1, including books that are monstrously expensive and hard to come by... Someone so desperate to learn how to play that he'd ignore anything for a possible leg up on the game. When that person don't want to see your world record run, well...I hope these guys won't go that far out of their way to piss enthusiasts like me off.

714 balls, 51 racks in 150 min
That does not seem possible
That would be an average of 3 minutes per rack. Someone said that one of the racks they watched took 90 seconds. Jayson does not mess about.

Schmidt's fastest rack was 2:45 and typical was 3:30 for the first half of his 626, then he slowed down to more like 5 minutes per rack. Jayson didn't slow down.
