Are Pro tournaments always played on new cloth?

Hopefully not a dumb question (I haven't been to a major event in over 30 years) ...

Specifically (if anyone knows), the upcoming Las Vegas Open. And how about the BCA (amateur) tournaments being held at that time? I'm assuming yes and will probably get my table recovered. But it will help pull the trigger if I know for sure.

Well first you need to define Pro Tournment.

We had one in Phoenix years ago, it was at Kolby in Tempe, AZ.

Forget the name, Jay Helfer was TD, it was not NEW CLOTH.

Was a 25k add, Strickland & Archer were two name I recall.

Usually the big ones are. BCA tables all have new cloth. Simonis. Was Mercury Ultra til 19 or 20.

I was asking specifically about the 2022 Las Vegas Open, if anyone knows. If they are setting up tables where there are usually none, I would expect new cloth. But I'm not familiar with the venue.

Some of the biggest Tournaments have the cloth changed daily.
Some the the least most one just use whatever is available--new or not.

Not too many pool tournaments get new cloth daily. Never heard of one doing it. Some of the big snooker events get new cloth over the course of a ten day/2week event.

Las Vegas Open and BCA amateur tournament will be at the Rio hotel. Rio has been the venue since moving from the Riviera. Amateur tournaments are played exclusively on 7' Diamonds and Simonis. The pro events are played on 9' Predator tables, Arcadia cloth, Arcos II balls, and Arena lights. The mechanics have changed the table cloth on the tables for the pro events.

Not every day tho.

Just guessing or you know of a tournament that changed daily? Makes no sense to me. Pool-wise or $$-wise.

NOT wi$E....
There was one yr Gary Benson had purchase 240 valley bar tables NEW delivered to the Rivera instead of Ft. Collins for the BCA bar table event.
Welllllllllll the Valley pool table employees thought the cloth Nap should be on top, so they covered EVERY table with the cloth flipped. LOL

Sounds like the kind of thing that wins you a free vacation, without pay, for life :)

30 years ago-yes they were as I remember.

These days the question is “what major event?” As in lack of them. The tournament trail is a distant memory.

Welcome back to pool, enjoy

With carom tournaments, the last thing the top players want is brand new cloth. The qualification rounds are generally run before the top players arrive, so the cloth is broken in for the round of 32 or so.

It is the same thing with pool cloth. Playing "slip and slide" may be amusing, but every shot is a thriller unless you have mastered stop shots.

I think at 128-player snooker tournaments, they may change the cloth once before the semis (?), but I think that's almost pointless. The cloth has very little wear and the players have to adjust a second time to brand new and slick.

Watching the USA pro billiards 10 ball tournament and they talked about the cloth and rails. I'm pretty sure they change the bed cloth for every event and the rail cloth doesn't get changed unless needed. They were talking about the live stream table so it would get about a weeks worth of play before change.

That's pretty normal. I'm guessing they give/donate/sell the used cloth. Ton of life left in it.

Carom players do not tear up the cloth while breaking, either.
SVB's break speed, on a carom table, would go 10-12 times around the bed.

I used to play at Chris's regularly when I lived in Illinois. Never saw a carom table leveled, not once, and they played wonderful!

That was the case for many years, but in terms of professional level events, that kind of changed as of last year it seems to me. CSI/Predator/FargoRate are putting on quite a few events each year (one of which is happening as we speak), and then Matchroom is also putting on multiple events each year (and even more of them this year than last year), and then there are a number of other events from various other promoters as well. While everyone hopes for even more eventually, it seems to me that domestically these are some of the better times to have been a pro in a while.

Look at all the events coming from just two promoters, not counting all the various other events out there. Of course they can only keep this up, or even better, expand and grow even more, if they get enough support, and so of course everyone should continue to support them in whatever ways you can if you enjoy professional level pool.
