Mike will obviously have something on the main page, but in the meantime, as a proud senior member of the USBMA and the Hall of Fame Committee, I’m happy to announce:

The Voters have spoken. This year’s BCA Hall of Fame Inductees are:

Dennis Orcullo - Greatest Player Category
Jerry W Briesath - Meritorious Service

The committee has made two wonderful choices. Well done!

Dennis has always been one of my favorite players and Jerry is my friend of more than 20 years, whose meritorious service to the game I've seen up close and it has been something special to behold.

Of course, I'm sure I won't be the first to ask these questions: "Will Dennis be in a position to attend his own induction ceremony?" and "Might his impending induction help his cause in gaining readmittance to the USA?"

Jerry, yes, absolutely. Dennis Orcullo, too soon. There is a rich history players still to be recognized.
Yes, there are others deserving of induction either now or soon. I'm sure they'll be inducted one day. Niels Feijen, one of very few players in history to win both a WPA Sanctioned World 9-ball title and a WPA sanctioned World 14.1 title, is the most obvious among the men and Ga Young Kim (not sure what her age is, probably about 40), who mass produced WPBA titles for many years, winning two World 9-ball titles and three US Open 9-ball titles along the way is also super-obvious. Their day will come.

All of that said, I'd suggest that today is a day for celebrating the hard-earned recognition bestowed on two very deserving inductees. The Hall of Fame committee made great choices and is to be commended. Dennis and Jerry have exhibited great and sustained excellence over many years, so let's give them their due.

I can't wait for their induction in the autumn!

Two deserving inductees. Congrats to both.

There are a number of deserving players. I wonder if Shane will get in the first year he’s eligible, since it’s a matter of when and not if Shane is inducted. I also wonder if Corey will get the nod one day.

Yes, Shane's very likely to gain induction in his first year of eligibility. I think that's 2024.

Your comment exemplifies exactly the point of my earlier comment. If they do nothing but nominate the first name that comes to mind nothing but contemporaries then someone from 50 years ago was just pushed into the shadows and forgotten.

Has the USBMA considered expanding recognition to website owners, authors, streamers and other reputable billiard info sources?

I ask to support AZB and ABR recognition.

The definition of media has greatly expanded since the USBMA birth.

I hear you but it's different with Shane IMO. He deserves it as much as anyone else currently in there and has rightfully earned his way in the first year he's eligible IMO.

However, I do agree with you that players and promoters of yesteryear like Billy Incardona, Bill Staton, Grady Matthews, Ronnie Allen, Bugs Rucker, etc. etc. should get a hard look before memories fade too fast. They all contributed to the game and its culture in ways that should be preserved more so than in the anecdotal backpages of AZB.

Technology is bad when things auto fill.

Bring back typewriters.

If you speak American use voice to text. Typewriters are too noisy.

Too stay on topic billiard rooms could use more press. Room owners should gain recognition for their efforts. Different house pros have great ways to promote the game.

Shane will be one of many nominees when he's eligible. I'm simply predicting he'll get the nod then. Obviously, I might be wrong.

There is a special category for overlooked veterans. If you feel strongly that such a player should be recognized, then put together a good bio for them. If everyone does nothing they are sure to remain overlooked. "He played real good and beat a lot of people and everyone knows about him," is not a sufficient bio. Send the bio to Mike Panozzo.

Neils was on the ballot. The rules permit more than one in the "greatest player" category to be selected in one year provided that the second place finisher receives more than 75% on all ballots cast. I don't remember the last year in which two players were inducted. (Massey/Dodson?)
