My question is or observation about gambling on Pool is are you GAMBLING, or STEALING?

You only need pocket a ball. No balls hitting a rail, as long as one ball is pocketed is still a legal break.

If you run a business, you charge as much as the market allows. You don’t price it so high that you have product on the shelf, and you don’t price it low enough that you’re sold out on backorders for two years or more. You price it so you sell things as or very shortly after it’s produced. In a perfect world that is.
If you don’t, someone else will.
Playing any game for money is no different. You just don’t get a business license. You charge what the market (the losing player) will stand.

People will always find a reason to part with their money. Player X isn’t all of a sudden going to keep that $5k/yr he loses playing pool because you felt like it was stealing. He’s going to go lose it to the next guy or next 10 guys.
Also, if you want to see something really interesting….go tell Player X you don’t feel the game is fair and offer a larger spot or close to 50/50 odds game.
You’ll be surprised how many actually get offended because of ego.
Call it gambling, call it stealing, call it smart business or personal investment. Call it whatever you want.
It would get under my skin as well. But I wouldn’t sweat it in the long run. Next time, just keep the break or say he can’t soft break. Problem solved. You guys had plenty of good sets, but now you know he’s more interested in winning than just playing.

Must be a strange rule set, I know I have seen tournaments where I cant remember if its 2 or 3 balls must cross the kitchen line and/or be pocketed in any combo to be a legal break and players who pocketed a ball had to forfeit the table because they didnt meet the requirement of enough balls crossing the kitchen line along with a pocketed ball.

I call it something I personally do not engage in. Maybe it is because I world had for money.
Remember back in 1970’s stopping on way home to watch the money change hand at North Hollywood Biliiards. Some night what I card at time a month pay would be lost by player.
Use to send cold waves down neck, but to the gambler it was just paper.
Gambling money has no home. It circulates.
At the end of the day if you win more than you lose, that’s all that matters. Winning is a by product of matching up good. Playing is just playing. Play your best and matchup well and you’ll be alright.
That’s how I look at it. Same with all gambling. Which is why casino gambling is stupid. It’s ALWAYS a bad game.
I recall the guys who were at North Hollywood Billiards, who came when Hollywood Park, and Santa Snita were open . They loved betting horses. Many won big bucks playing Pool.
Many lost it all at track, think it was a disease.
Most never had much but gambling.

Horses are a super disease, those guys have it the worst. I seen it in Vegas for decades, the men & horses and the women and video poker are the sickest of the degenerate gamblers.
Well we have Indian Casino in Arizona, the Indians are cleaning up.
They have hurt Las Vegas, people love slots.
The Indians always win.
They train people how to gamble at tribal casinos.
They don’t have a negative impact on tourism in Nevada
I have heard many local people in Arizona say why go to Neveda? Desert Diamond in Glendale has all tablet games.
They end up going. Training wheels fall off and they go.
If you are the better player there should be a way to beat the game. Obviously you did not stipulate the break rules so I doubt you made a 3 foul rule. Just give him ball in hand until he lets you see the the object ball...then out play him. Sort of a One Pocket type game.
I dont understand this situation, if he makes an illegal break dont you get ball in hand? Why not safe him after the illegal break? Just because he has all the breaks doesnt mean he can break illegally. I'm confused?
The only agreed break requirement is that the opponent gets all the breaks. Nothing was said about how many balls must hit a rail.
Then just pushout and out play him? He is the stronger handicap correct?
Plus you should not have to stipulate how many balls have to hit the rail because 3 balls must hit a rail for a legal break per almost all rule sets. No? I guess not when gambling? Nitty either way.
To the OP: I think you could have beaten that guy even with his safety break; that is, if you already were beating him giving up all that weight.
I can imagine myself thinking his move is chicken sh1t if it got the best of me, and he went talking trash about me to the other guys. However, it seems to me that guy is good for a little regular gas money. I would forgive him, and hope that he forgave me for getting pissy....so that I could get my customer back.
