Pool fads?

The Delta racks, although good racks, made a splash and seem to have been relegated to just another rack.

Having used flimsy racks, and now a decent rack, I can believe the Delta rack works great. I just can't stand the clack! clank! when people are putting the balls in.

Inspired by another thread, I started thinking about wether I've seen any short term fads in pool (that very wildly popular for a short while, then disappeared)? I'm not talking about cue/equipment brands , more maybe special cue types, accessories etc. Truth is, I can't really think of any off the top of my head. Anyone remember some? Am I forgetting something obvious?

Anyone remember the “billiards workbook”?

Back before things like kindle…..every book was obviously paper.

This thing was probably 4” thick of nothing but drills. To be fair, some of them were the same drill, just slightly longer.

But the thing was huge and had tons of drills.

Some pool halls have rackers for the whole room.

talc mountains.

Smoking in pool halls

Pool being seedy. Now its more European. Its like pole vaulting.

No more room players guarding secrets to the universe. The only secret to sell is practice drills or corrective feedback.

The words “Rack ‘Em Andy” are lost forever.

Andy Lockey was the “rack man“ who wore a carpenters apron to make change. Eight and nine ball were 10¢ a game. Straight pool and ‘line-up‘ we’re 80¢ an hour. I bet 5 people on this site never heard of or played ‘line-up’. I’ve only run into one player in the past 60 years that played the game. A long hall truck driver I met at Fast Eddies on Richmond in Houston in the 90’s.

Playing Pool the game was a FAD, after the movies, THE HUSTLER & COLOR OF MONEY.

Fad was replace, by new FADS. Surfing was Fad in 50’s, 60’s,and places like Anderson Indians has Surfing Clubs.

Closest Waves were a Thousand plus miles in any direction. HOOSIERS they they were Surfers.
