why is there background music at Matchroom events?

since there's like five people in the audience i guess they thought they needed something to fill the void. like playing in a mausoleum.

yep. or rather, with this many tables and this many germans in the field the audience are predictably going over to their tables. they were panning the camera over and people were watching the filler vs another german guy match

i don't mind music, but copyright free music in general can be rather crappy

Many pool events have background music, the TAR matches played music, anything in a casino tends to have the music they play normally.
And it is much better than no music especially when there are multiple tables going. In the current tournament there will be some crowd noise inevitably and the background music makes that much less bothersome.

CanadianGuy, Howdy;

Ya gotta remember a Woman is running the show and she not what ya'd
call a pool player. She be one of them "Marketing" types that want us to
fall into a jell-o mold and all be the same. How else can you explain the
color of the balls and cloth?

During the Camel Pro events, the players requested background music. The did not like dead air/
The sounds of obj. dropped from bleacher landing on a hard floor, the metal itself, and of course jabbering from the stands.

Background music is a must to have one's mind relaxed and not distracted by a minor whisper (let alone talking) going from god knows where.

Depends on the music, I guess. If they were playing hip-hop, or heavy metal, I'd probably pack my bags and go home.

Well, if the sound is not excruciating (sp?), a player does not particularly listen to the tune, it's just his subconscious gets pacified. Even with heavy metal running quietly (lol) at the background.

I find this super annoying

is this something the players like?
The music they played annoyed me as well. As you can see by the vinyl next to my table in the thumbnail I LOVE music... just not whatever they were playing. I know you can't make everyone happy with musical tastes and copywrite considerations but I had the same reaction.

I watch on my phone. I hear the music but it barely registers. I think it’s better than silence.

Real music would be even better but I get FB and YT will mute and/or kill your streams even if you secure the rights. It’s not like Matchroom is going to put “I don’t own the rights to the music” and pretend that’ll save their streams.

So maybe we get real music once we get to the real broadcast stage of the event.
