Matchroom has recently reached out to the Billiard Congress of America to see if we can help secure referees for this year's US Open at Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City.
If you are or know someone who may be interested in learning more about how to be a referee for this event please contact Shane Tyree at shane@bca-pool.com or 303.243.5070x23.

The US Open (9-ball) is October 10-15. The referees are probably most needed the first three days.

Bob, do you know if there is any planned compensation for the refs? Pay, lodging credit, free tournament admission at times ref is not working, etc... Just curious.

I'm quite surprised over this. Why wouldn't they have contacted John Leyman Director of Referee's for CSI and has done multiple events for Matchroom over the past few years

I assume they will have no problem getting a head referee. I assumed they were looking for some additional floor referees to cover the non-TV tables throughout the early stages. Though I did hear some gossip that perhaps Matchroom may actually have had a falling out with John due to something related to his Predator event affiliations. But I kind of wrote that off as odd hearsay.

In the first Atlantic City US Open, there was a staffing problem due to no-shows, which they probably don't want to repeat. I think they will have 32 or 33 tables to staff. I think last time there was a scorekeeper on each table and a ref every four tables, and maybe additional for relief. That's a lot of staff.

It's getting late and I'm tired and when I glanced at this thread from the main forum I thought it said...

"Reefers needed for US Open in Atlantic City".

I hope the snooker referees are coming. I love them. They're so professional and know what they're doing.

There's nothing worse than having a referee make a bad call in front of the livestream or TV cameras. Had it happen to my team before, a bad call by the husband of a staff member posing as a referee. Never will forget it.

What's it paying? I'm local

The questions crack me up. Bob is simply passing along the info. He's not part of the event or the referee recruitment team. If you want additional info, the proper channel was provided in Bob's opening post.

Last year the rackers were $50 a day plus room plus food allowance. I would think refs would get more $$. They don’t have a ref at each table. If one is needed he would be called over.

There's a thankless job.

$50/day, and sharing a room with a total stranger...no thanks. Not surprising there were a bunch of no-shows, a few years back.

I guess the referees make a little more than that, but still. Probably some long days of standing on your feet much of the time. Plus, I suspect there is at least one day of training.

This is three years old. (i.e. it's NOT current), but it might give an idea of what is involved: https://matchroompool.com/news/mosconi-cup/ref-factor-got-takes-pools-next-top-ref/
