Mosconi Cup Team - USA

Perhaps you are forgetting that the Mosconi is a Matchroom event. Matchroom has standardized the pro pool game, staging and affiliating itself with nine-ball events alone. I'd be shocked if Matchroom does anything that's not nine-ball in the remainder of this decade.
I think it'd be cool to see the press conference transformed into a 9ball banks ring game, mic up all the players and ask questions to the non shooting players.

What about Justin Martin? Is everyone sleeping on him? Dude has beat a lot of really good players lately and looks like an "all-American" dude.

Yes, Justin is an excellent player. He took Albin Ouschan to the double hill at the 2021 International 9-ball and beat Alex Kazakis at the 2022 Derby City 9-ball. The case for Justin is very similar to the case for Shane Wolford, but Shane seems to reach Stage 2 at the majors more often than Justin, so I'd take Shane over Justin, just by a hair. I think both will be found on future Team USA squads.

Tony Chohan should be last pick. Can handle the pressure and it's only a race to 5. Imagine if he took rotation seriously at 780 Fargo 🤣

i got the impression JJ would have wanted him to play the US open. may not be a candidate anymore

Here's the live Matchroom rankings

Rankings of USA only players (*already picked for the team)

1. Shane*
2. Oscar*
3. Skyler*
4. Hogue
5. Wolford
6. Styer*
7. DeLeon
8. Thorpe
9. Olson
10. Pinegar

Out of the players not picked, Wolford and Thorpe have won the most $ per AZBilliard's list, but Thorpe's biggest wins have come in non rotational events (same with Chohan and Roberts).

So with that in mind, and the fact that JJ has talked highly of Wolford on stream before, my money would be on him getting the final spot.

Mike page now includes one pocket in the FargoRate completely skewing our whole perspective on rotation ratings. I imagine Tony is 750’s without one pocket included.

Imagine 1 pocket tournaments making that much of an effect on his Fargo. With 4000+ games in the system, most 1 pocket tournaments are like weekly mini rotational tournaments, in terms of games played. Barely would move his Fargo, if any at all. Imagine moving 30+ points in a span of less than a year with already 3000+ games in the system....not happening. Also, that recent add on of putting 1 pocket into Fargo isn't even a year old if my memory serves me right.

Thanks for the list. These are the Americans that have shown some form in Matchroom events, and that should be fundamental to selection for Matchroom's premier invitational event of the year. Hogue seems to me a "one hit wonder" and his selection wouldn't bother me in the least, but Wolford has been more committed to participating in the major events and he, therefore, rates the better choice.

When you’re stomping 800+ Fargo’s at a rate of 3-2 it’s going to skew things no matter how many games in the system.

I agree that it skews the numbers a bit. But Tony has plenty of big time 9-ball matches on youtube that show how strong he plays. He's definitely not far off of his Fargo.
