Waiting v. Playing and the Toll

I find that the waiting in tournaments a lot of times takes much more out of me than the playing.
Non comfortable chairs, hard floors with little or no padding (bare concrete is the worst.)

What do you think takes its toll on you during tournaments?

The last tournament I played in had 59 players from several states and after my first win I had a bye with a 3 hour wait.
That was the last big one for me.
I did come in 19th.

we had one 10 ball tournament in my area for a while, sunday at 12, single elimination. Got some very good players, you really didn't wait for anything.

I honestly don’t know why many players are willing to give up an entire day/night or an entire weekend to put themselves through that, knowing how little time they’ll actually be playing in matches compared to the length of time from when they leave home to when they get back at home. In most all cases it is not for the $, as less than 5% of these players manage to break even or better for their time and $ expenses.

What we are willing to do and sacrifice for the love of the game and love of competing against other players who share the same passion!

When the TD doesn't use a flow chart, and by doing that.... leaves it up to the computer to call out matches to speed up play.

WRONG

Best.... play the ''FIRST TWO ROUNDS WINNERS SIDE" then proceed to the one loss side, and Know this up front.
You're able to plan your rests/dinner and being out of the room when not needed.

To be a TD and be constantly asked ''when is my next match time'' is not good.

Other than that too many ''particulars'' to even talk about.

Waiting and thinking... Bad for some players... Guy

If we come up with all the negatives of tournaments there would be no tournaments ( TIME ) ... Guy

when I end up leaving the place really late and aren't in the money, I always say, I won't do that again. But when it comes up, I do.

This is the answer in my opinion. If there was a little more structure, then your breaks could be planned for. I hate when I win a match, expect to get a break, get a cheeseburger, then find out I'm playing again right away.

Wouldn't it be cool if you won your first two matches and KNEW you had at least the next two hours off? You could rest, head home if you live close, plan a lunch date with the kids, run some errands... Even a heads up of "you won't start your next match until at least 5:00" would go a long way in getting me interested. Until then, I am with Black balled. I can't stand waiting around a pool hall all day.

Easy e, it was Always that way in the past.
Winners side first two rounds.... then losers bracket.

ALWAYS

Which is why I have only played in a handful of tourneys in pool in my life. I prefer action as I can set my own schedule. Which is how I live my life in general. I can’t play on a “schedule”. This applies to most everything in life for me.

Waiting just isn’t part of my schedule.

Hope your well
