2023 World Pool Championship, Kielce, Poland

When that was discussed by Alex and JJ in the commentary, JJ also speculated that the z-shaft "wears" over time because it's wood. Thus, the other potential reason for the switch, although the sponsor pressure to play their CF shaft is more likely. Not sure what JJ meant by that "wear" comment.
I was told by a multiple time World Champion that in Taiwan, almost no one plays with a Predator as they 'wear out' in 6 months and then they would have to get use to another one. Friction will obviously wear down any wood but due to the construction, the P's take it worse than most they believe.

That's a load of crap. The only way you're going to 'wear out' a Pred wood shaft is by abuse or constant breaking with it. The friction from just playing with one will not wear/erode it. I know a few players still using pre-cat and gen 2's that are still like new. Please.

the z-shafts are very consistent so he could just get a new one if that was the case.

it's just very out of character for him to switch shaft at this point. i bet he wears the same socks as he had when he won the title. he has various trinkets in his cue case for good luck too.

Shane Wolford is on this stream in an elimination match. He seems to have really nice mechanics - reminiscent of Styer but not as robotic or unnatural looking over the ball.

What on earth went on in these matches? They have been playing over 3 hours.

Been watching the last couple of days from our home here in the Philippines. My take on things include how impressive is the overall look and the professionalism of this event. Credit to Matchroom who seem to be improving their presentation with each tournament. Contrast this to what we saw last week in Lousiville (New Albany I mean). The difference is glaring. One looks like the future of pro pool. The other looks like a dinosaur.

I like the short bios of each player at the featured table and the quick sound bites with winners of the matches. The field is super competitive with many familiar names, some less familiar and others totally unfamiliar. But even the latter players are very good, a testament to the depth of pool talent in Europe and worldwide.

We are seeing the advent of a new era in Pool, with bigger and better tournaments, that feature decent prize money and far better television coverage. I look for a jump soon in the purses to where the winners are getting six figure pay checks (100K) and the purses are in the half million dollar range. That would put pool in line with the Korn Ferry tour in golf, a quantum leap from where we were a short time ago.

When we reach this level, watch all the new players who start showing up. Show a young man or woman a way to make a living at the game and you will see more kids picking up a cue. That’s a win-win for our sport, for the players, the manufacturers, the billiard suppliers and the room owners!

Either way, we’re on a roll!

I have a gen 1 I have been using over 10 years, still perfect

I'm surprised Orcollo isn't playing. I know he can't go the US due to the visa problem, but he has no restrictions in terms of traveling to Europe, correct?

Something is definitely off with Filler. Shaking his head after most of his shots. Missing easy shots.
Shaw and Fortunski seemed off too. Don't think it's a coincidence that they just came from Derby.

Shane and Alex looked fine though, and they are older and went deeper at Derby than the other guys. Maybe it's a case of some guys being able to sleep well on planes, while some guys can't.

He chose not to go. Too far and too expensive for a single tourney. He is doing well in the improved pool scene at home in the Philippines, with more tournaments and nightly cash games. All the young guns want to test him.

We had a discussion about going and his response was too many good players who all can win at 9-Ball. He needs to make the final eight to make even small money. It was just not worth it compared to the opportunities he had close to home.

We are currently in talks to open Robocop Billiards in Quezon City. I’m heading to Manila next week to check out a prospective location.

Watching Thorpe and Tuan match. Miss after miss. Billy looks like a shadow of his old self. Just not prepared for this level of competition.
