SJM at the 2023 Derby City Catastrophe

In some golf tournaments, they definitely change the conditions to make it more difficult by saving the toughest pin placements for the last day. That can make all the difference in the number of birdies made in a round. For elite players in either sport I'd say those pin placements make more of a difference than a pocket being a quarter inch smaller.

Well, I'll be -- professional golf, one of the behemoths of big money sports, on purpose makes it tougher the final day? You don't say... maybe I should care more about... golf

Well of course (see what I did there?).

They often move pin placement — but that’s not what we’re talking about. At golf they’re always moving things around. I previously mentioned that Augusta has had all kinds of changes accomplished to make it more challenging:

But we’re talking about the size of the hole.

I imagine that if they decided to change THAT a whole lot of people would have something to say about it.

Since the stands aren’t full for the Bigfoot and it seems more for recording matches and online streaming sales 🙄, why not start that on Wednesday or Thursday before the banks starts?

Do the finals of it the first Friday.

Those players can concentrate on that, they get it done in 3 days because players aren’t in banks or one pocket matches.

There’s lots of other ideas that have been said on here and through the years but they either fall on deaf ears or they just don’t care. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You’re nit picking and I don’t know why. The point is golf makes it harder through progressive rounds. How they accomplish that is irrelevant.

After a lot of thought, Imo the only realistic way to make the DCC an enjoyable experience throughout the week, is to limit entries to 300 per division.

Many of the ideas in this thread would improve the situation. However, I don’t see management doing any of them. They have not changed a single thing in 15 years to make the process better. They won’t now either.

And if there were undulations and elevation changes on a pool table, a whole lot of people would have something to say about that, too.:)

No, the size of the target is a pretty fundamental issue, whether it’s pool, golf, darts, whatever.

We disagree, meh.

I thought that the tables at the DCC this year played very level.

They also played very tough, fast, and short.

Well, originally what I was responding to was "but they don’t purposefully change things to make the game tougher mid series" from your post and that is exactly what golf is doing.

I guess I thought it was clear I was talking about the target.

Yes, even worse if they watered it down with a sprinkler.

Reminds me....

A loose quote from a recent golf broadcast: "the rain made the course and greens wet and slow...that is why there are so many low scores today"

i wonder if the top say 5 or 10 players called up and said they would come if traditional colored balls were use only. what do you think might happen.
