No dispute that Efren is the GOAT, but who is the 9 ball GOAT?

I’m curious on who has ever confirmed this dump?

The Challenge of Champions went on for a few years after the 1991 event and they still made a line on it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lots of bullshit accusations but I’ve never ever seen anything from anyone except opinions.
I watched an interview with Earl where he talked about it. I've been trying to find it but cant

Post in thread 'Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal' https://forums.azbilliards.com/thre...iggins-in-betting-scandal.185613/post-2401836
Jay Helfert mentions it in this thread
Jay has HIS opinion…that’s all it is…his opinion. Earl wasn’t even in this event.

When you find the proof…please start a new thread on it.

Lots of people would be interested in it if it was true.

Thanks

By the way, do people know how many pros/champions have missed with ball in hand??? 😱😱😱 TONS

Earl wasn't in the event because he wanted no part of the dump scheme. I watched an interview where Earl talked about it. I know what I heard Earl say and Jay knows what he knows.

Mine isn’t speculation.

Yours and Jays IS speculation.

Sorry

Efren's great, but his break keeps him out of GOAT contention for 9b.
That's a perfect contribution to this thread.

I'd also observe that GOAT should place consistent gambling wins and tournaments wins in different judgment categories.

Watched the videos and I don’t know much about Mike LeBron, but how on earth did he qualify for this tournament against a hall of farmer and 4 future HoF’s? Wow

There’s something fishy about the entire event.

Looked like Buddy really had to work for that dump if that was what was going on.

The ordeal gives 1919 White Sox World Series scandal vibes.

EDIT: FIVE HoF’s. Forgot about Davenport.

Nope. Never happened. Stevelomako a.k.a. Jonny Cochran, says unless someone directly involved in the scheme comes forward with a full confession, it didn't happen.

LeBron was no slouch. Not exactly the favorite among the champions of his era, I'll concede that for sure. But he didn't have to lose, either.

He did beat Varner 11-6 to win the 88 US Open 9 Ball, back when Nick was playing in rarefied air.

FWIW, Pat Fleming is adamant no dump occurred.

The both played awful in that video for who they are. I can see some questions being raised if all you have is the video to go off of.

The real crime to me is the way that table looks. Kim Steel?

Yes, but when the contract was up for renewal, neither the Mirage nor others in Vegas had any interest at all. The word was out in Vegas that the event was not on the level and Vegas has steered clear of making a line on pool ever since.

@azhousepro
Maybe there’s Accu-Stats footage of the ‘88 US Open 9B Championship to upload? Or anything Accu-Stats related with ‘Spanish Mike’ Lebrón?

In the meantime there’s this:

Stu, they made lines on it after that year. 🤦🏻‍♂️

It probably wasn’t worth it to the bottom line to have those things.

Just like the WPBA was a loss leader for the casinos and they ended their relationship and that was a bunch of different properties.

Just the the Seminole Indians/Hard Rock ended their sponsorship of tournaments.

ROI…You know that term very well. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There’s only been speculation.

If the word “was out” as you say…name me someone from Vegas.

Cmon man you know it’s just a bunch of malarkey.

I know they made lines on it until the contract with Billiards International ran out in what I believe was 1994, but after that, they neither renewed nor ever made book on pool again despite the fact that pool had a significant presence in Vegas.

Steve, I know you know your stuff, and just like you, I was around pro pool back then. Even though I know what I saw, there will never be proof of the dump and everyone's allowed their opinion.

Hope you're well, Steve.
