Ronnie 1996 128 video - VERY fast

i’ll try not to exaggerate-
his every movement
is well worth a watch well said

how many centuries has he
made that weren’t in a ranking event?

twice as many?
ten times?

the masters (which i believe the video is from) is oddly enough not a ranking event. it's the second most prestigious event, but since it's only the top 16 players invited it doesn't count into ranking points

i would guess that if you count exhibition events the number of centuries are probably tenfold. him and jimmy white have been touring for a decade+ and with the pressure off, and on easier tables, low breaks are probably the exception

I'm glad Snooker does not have that silly rule where all balls must stop before the ref does anything.

That is probably mostly for the players, I'm sure the ref can take out a ball if the other moving balls are way away from that area. The rule is "the shot is not over till the balls stop moving", and it's a good idea to have the refs and people in charge not take the "it does not apply to me" stance to the rules and set an example for the players.
Also there is a difference in that the spotting of the balls in integral to the game of snooker in the middle of the rack, over the time I'm sure they all worked out a good flowing system to spot them up. The refs probably want to do their best not to interfere with the pace of the player so spot the balls up at a good clip.

This video of Ronnie is well worth a watch. It's more exciting than a lot of his 147's, IMO. Enjoy:)

That man is crazy talented with a cue, Efren may be the "best of all time" but I don't think his cueing technique is on par with Ronnie, or for that matter, is anyone else's. Ronnie vs the others in pure cue talent and pace is on the level of Efren 1 pocket in his prime when no one could play him even.

I think that match was in the period when Ronnie wasn't running (jogging) and had gained some weight. If he had been in better shape he could have quickened his slow pace. ;)

Ronnie has experienced a foul for shooting before a ball was spotted. Ronnie keeps the refs on their toes and expect professionalism. They had better know the rules!

Blink and you miss it. Not even two stroke. One stroke and pull back, bang, ball goes in.
He was same in his first tv tournament as a 14 year old.not as fast, but same style.

Did the official pocket templates get smaller over the years?
IDK but one thing I hadn't been aware of was the balls being 1/8" tinier than American balls. This is a significant difference as far as pocket slack goes and whatever the current standards, Brunswick 10 footers always seemed tighter. They had square apertures as I recall but you really want to avoid the rubber anyway.

I just looked it up, I was not aware that American Snooker was different than International Snooker in rules and equipment, besides the 12' vs 10' table. Thanks for bringing that up.

According to what I found on Wikipedia, American used 2 1/8" balls, while International used 2 1/16" balls. (It seems the international is now 52.5mm, a small difference from 2 1/16", I didn't find what year that changed).

All that said, I think every snooker match that's ever been on Youtube is probably the International version and equipment.
