Anything in the rumor mill about this?
If something like this were to take place, 65 and over would probably be best. It would be fun to see Nick, Buddy, Rempe again on the other hand maybe it would be better to just enjoy the memories of them when they were in top form. Kind of on two minds on this one...Yes 80 and over...

this year is the 8th annual version
its streamed by poolactiontv.com
last year efren played in it
have to be at least 65 in the year of the event
one year they had a supersenior event where minimum age was 70 if i recall correctly

I don't think Matchroom would promote anything like this to the detriment of the above stated goals to be sure. However as some sort of an occasional match up of 'the old guard' for us old codgers to watch and enjoy may not be such a bad thing.I've certainly heard nothing about this and, to be honest, it would be at odds with what appears to be Matchroom's strategic direction, which I'd summarize as "to a) give players all over the world a platform to exhibit their skills and earn an income and b) offer young promising players an opportunity to both develop and exhibit the skills that will make them the pros of tomorrow."
If somebody can make a financial success of a senior tour, I'm all for it, but I'd be in shock if it were Matchroom.
you are correct and i will correct my postActually Varner placed second in last year's event if I'm not mistaken.

Lou brings up some interesting points, but how would you go about disallowing a Parica, Varner, or Efren if they qualify for that age stipulation?MR is never ever going to go with something like.
BUT, the concept is a worthy one.
There are a ton of older players with a wealth of knowledge and skill that would love and benefit from an event that *excluded* the older pros and just gave the *OFs” (Old Folks) a chance to compete without Parica or Varner or Efren stealing the pot, or being prohibitive favorites to cash, which is what the Seniors event in Houston has become, IMO.
Oh yeah, I know, they don’t have to win but those guys have forgotten more about pool than most of us will ever know. It’s a shame the OFs can’t have a tournament that doesn’t turn into a free buffet for the older pros.
oh, and if you like the idea of playing the pros so much — great, go enter an Open event — but give the OFs an event to enjoy themselves and to see how they stack up against each other later in life. Sooner or later, everyone here, if they make it to 65 or older, will be an OF and know what I mean.

In general I agree with Lou in the fact that I would like to see more events for seniors at the local level. Any billiard rooms that are still open seem to just cater to the young crowd with loud juke boxes etc. I'm not so naïve not to know that this is what brings in their money but something more for seniors without having to go to a senior center would be nice.
